BOAT IS AT YARD NOW...THEY START TODAY
Lola, any word yet on the engine repair estimates?
Yes, as of today now Top end, Valve Job, cyl Head Condition...then will do a sea trial..still wondering if my prop is too large...will send diver down. He believes no need to buy a new engine..watch my page title for latest news
He thinks final bill may be around 2200....?

Thank you for asking
Sorry missed your other reply. $2200 is a lot better than and entire engine. Hopefully he'll come in close to his estimate.
Good luck, keep us posted.
LOLA:
I have used different fuel additives within the fuel system before but ended up going with this system over 4 yrs ago. I have never had any trouble with it and my fuel always looks clean. Being here in the Great Lakes. We always top off our fuel tanks prior to haul out so we do not have condensation in the tanks over the winter. On sailboats, this sometime means that we still have a lot of old diesel fuel in the tank if we have not motored much in the 6 months were in the water. I think the unit I bought was less then $200 and to me well worth it. I know CAT use's them on a lot of their equipment and there is even a sailing charter company that has them installed and some new boat manufacturer have them as standard equipment. So it has a track record of working. I use the fuel catalyst they sell as well. The link is below.

Lola,

Just go to your marine chandler and get a diesel fuel additive which is a biocide. A good marine chandler would have a good brand.

They are very economical.

Hard to get independent review on this, as their effect are very hard to evaluate objectively.
I use RedLine Diesel Fuel Catalyst - I use it in the Yanmar 2QM15 in boat and in our two venerable Mercedes 300-series diesels. I use a biocide in the boat, don't remember the name, but get it at the local West Marine.
I too had an Algae X on our last boat and always used thier biocide whenever I filled up. Never any problems in 7+ yrs and over 500 hrs. For the new boat I'm going to run just a biocide (can't remember the brand but think it's StaBil) as I expect to go through fuel on a regular basis. I'll add an Alage X unit if I feel it's warranted.
and filter the fuel when refueling.
This may be a dumb question but how do you filter the fuel as you are refueling?
It's screened funnel that you place in the fuel intake thru hull. Just stick the hose in the funnel and top off your tanks. Haven't used one as I've not had any issues with dirty fuel.
