We're in Long Island, Bahamas and visited what is touted to be the deepest Blue Hole in the World at 600+ feet.  It's rather unusual in that you can wade out to it in knee deep water and then...WOW!  International freediving competitions are held here each years.  It's amazing to watch and meet these young kids from all over the world. Did I mention without an ounce of body fat?   We watched a young fellow, wearing a single flipper that both of his feet were in (think of a mermaid tail) freedive to 135 meters!  Very impressive!

FWIW, I would encourage anyone sailing in the Bahamas to be sure and visit Long Island. It is, without a doubt, our all time favorite (inhabited) island in this country. There is Hillside Grocery in Salt Pond. A wonderful place to provision. Long Island Petroleum for fuel, water and they take care of getting your propane refilled. The people here are not only pleasant, they are very friendly and extremely helpful. Yesterday a package of spare parts for our generator arrived via FedEx. When I called the agent to see if he knew when it might arrive, he told me it was alredy there. I said I'd have to hitchhike down the next day to get it and he asked where I was. I told him and he said "hang around a bit and I'll run it down to you"! It was at least a twenty mile drive.

We plan to hoist anchor Sunday and head over to the Jumetos ( a string of uninhabited islands). They are also a very special place. Spear fishing is beyond great. We enjoy Grouper, Lobster, Conch and Margate. I'm still working on my hunting skills! LOL! The "cruiser sundowner beach parties" are very enjoyable and of course the Conch Horn Sonatas at sunset are a hoot.

Here's a picture of the conch horn I made for Diane. Next year I'm going to add valves!
