I just bought a contessa 26, and I am trying to get an unbaised opinion of the sailing caracteristics of the boat.

I have sailed dozens of boats, but the Contessa 26 is new to me. Because of its narrow beam, I expect some original tenderness, but I cant seem to nail down what is considered  acceptance angle of heel. The boat is selfbailing up to  point, but my opinion is, that the 2 drains are too small. Does anyone have an idea of if the hole size can be enlarged, or would it be better to add one more, perhaps draining out of the transom.

The boat does not have a furlig jib, so I am in the process of making one, since I understand the deck can be quite wet.

At what point is it prudent to reef, how does the boat handle under jib alone and also mail alone, how many reef point would be desireable on the main. I have to install a new engine and have been offered an 8 hp Westerbeke Diesel, does anyone know if that will fit.

I know it is a lot of questions. maybe some one has some good ideas, also is there any one particular trait to look for, I.E. excessive weather helm etc
