Calling all live aboards and cruisers of long distance and even short distances -
What canned foods do you like ?
Starting Monday, I'm beginning my can night.
What are your favorite canned foods and brands ?
What would 4 essential items be ?
What about dry goods and how do you keep them dry on a boat ?

When I'm not looking at boats for sale, or reading about boat design, I'm planning for a month or more of food stores aboard. I've been spoiled on land with easy access to healthy fresh & seasonal foods, and really don't eat canned foods. But I know I will need to have a large store of canned goods. After reading an online article from a famous cruising couple (forgive me, I can't remember their names right now - from Cruising World I think), who started can night at their land home before leaving, it seems a wise and prudent idea.
Now, I know some cruisers, who will remain unnamed, could care less about variety. That's ok. I'm easy going, I can go eating the same d*** thing day after day but I know I'll be happier with variety.

So, starting Monday, I'm beginning my can night.
How about you ? Please share

if you have ever made a passage offshore you will know that dried beans and other things requiring long cooking times are not practical in the least----the most practical things to keep are pre-prepared finger foods, pb and jelly....etc---try to make and eat foods requiring cooking while on a passage--even with an auto pilot, there is no way to leave helm and make a secure galley and make a 6 hour meal...lol......crackers and tinned meats and such are the best things --cheeses, anything requiring no cook time for the passages....the dried things and needsalot to cook stuff --gooood for whenya get to your destination----donot forget--even those of us with goood hearts will experience swelling of extremities with sunburn and salty foods.......

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
