SeaKnots

My wife and I are looking for a sailboat that we can take from Puget Sound to South Alaska over about 3 years and then coastwise down to the Sea of Cortez for another 2 or 3 years, sailing and living aboard 5 months a year. Do you think that this would be a good boat for it? I've never heard of the builder. she seems well built. price is in the low $30s. Your input really appreciated since all my other boats have been made from trees.

thanks!
Bill. thanks a lot! that info really helps me. I'll check out alex's blueshpere right away. going out to look at the boat the end of this month. fingers crossed that it is as pictured. I'll give you a report after i check her out. fair winds buddy. pat
This boat is VERY similar to the Westsail models .....it is more than likely a VERY sturdy boat ...just as the Westsails were. There are 2 of them here in our Marina and both owners swear by them as being the greatest thing since sliced bread! Looks like a good price and its in great condition via the pics as well! Best of luck on your decision!
Hey, thanks so much Banana Wind. That helps. great to get your feedback from the 2 westsail owners at your dock. literature is "interesting" but nothing like direct feedback from sailors who own a similar hull/boat. going out to see her and probably buy her if she's like the photos... will probably put her on thehard and do a survey just in case... i tend to "overlook" things when i get in a buying mood. i'll let you know end of month how things turn out. fair seas. pat
Good luck, we hope all works out for you. she looks well loved
Definitely get a survey that way you know exactly what you’re buying into. It could save you a lot of time and trouble. The design would be good for cruising. It's not going to get anywhere in a hurry, but it should be able to go anywhere. While it’s a good hull for open sea backing in tight spaces (marinas) will be challenging. Just something to be aware of.

Good luck.
Hmm, that backing in is something to think about. never would have thought of that. reality is i'll be spending about 50% of time at a marina somewhere and the rest, hopefully, hangin off the hook. thanks again. pat
Hi, we live on our 33 T Hans Christian (double ender) and have never had any trouble backing in; actually backing her up into a slip is sometimes eaiser than going in bow first because of her 6' bowsprit. She turns on a dime and responds very well.

During your sea trial make sure while under power you turn her in a circle, and back her up to see how she responds. We sail almost every weekend backing her in and out of her slip.

Hey, Jack & Sue. My left something for a Hans Christian. Man what a sailboat. Maybe this will be my poor mans and womans Hans?! Will do what you said when on a seatrial. Speaking of bowsprits, did i tell you about the time I backed Mara, my old 34 Tancook Whaler (photo) out of her slip in San Francisco and managed to sweep the BRAND NEW yuppie Williams of Sonoma Hibachi off my dock?! It had never even been used and Mara decided she would deep six it. Had a heck of a sail though.
Hi Pat,
She is so pretty...can't wait for the seatrial story. good luck and enjoy. I miss the PNW we hope to get back there in a few years.
giggles....gotta love bowsprit stories....a few months ago as we were coming into our dock, I was on the port spring and Jack oooops...put the boat into nutural went for the starboard line and yep you guessed it... the boat went into gear and our bowsprit went right through our dockbox :)... your right though a heck of a sail and that is what our homes are all about.
