Hi Buzz,
My name is John Storring and I live on Lake Ont. in Canada. Browsing pictures and found a picture of your Fuji 34 and wonder if it is a boat that I owned at one time, ex Round-A-Vous, ex Mistral when I owned it. Was featured in Lattitudes & Attitudes, March 2005, as Round-A-Vous. If it is the same boat would love to hear more about how she is doing. We owned her for about 10 yrs. and cruised from Florida to Venezuala in her and then put her for sale in the BVI, didn't really want to sell her just had 2ft.itis, and the first guy who looked at her bought her and she ended up in California. Thanks and fair winds.
Actually, it went fairly well. I went through the Moorings brokerage, Mike Keily. The boat I bought was still in charter with Footloose, had a little over a year to go. I hired a surveyor, went to Tortola and tore through the boat, very extensive survey. We identified 16 pages of stuff, most of it little, but some not. We got to sail her twice in the following year, virtually for free, made about $8k in charter fees and now she is in phase out. This boat had not received the Moorings phase out which is more extensive than the Footloose phase out, that was a major selling point for me. With the Moorings phase out they have to fix more stuff, with Footloose phase out the boat just has to be cruise ready, in other words I think they just clean it up and remove the decals and logos. At any rate, I think we did ok, the previous owner suffered the depreciation and we got a good, solid boat for a reasonable price. The engine has close to 6000 hours, but a well maintained diesel should last 10k or more. Even if I have to replace the engine, which I probably will eventually, we came out way ahead. I will be happy to answer any other questions that you have. Just make sure you get everything in writing. I didn't get the 'Moorings phase out' thing in writing but luckily for me, Mike Kiely still had an email that talked about it and he cleared it up with the Tui Marine people. They are the Moorings management group.
