Beneteau 43 two cabin slip covers

We are taking out cat Genny to the Bahamas this year and I am fearful of the beautiful white leatherette salon cushions.  If anyone has had cushions made could you please give us a name of the maker.  We can make them ourselves if we had the dimensions but would be happy if there was a custom supplier.  The boat is in the Abacos and we are in Halifax so we can't go and measure.

Many thanks, John

Beneteau 43 sterntube leak

  • We need some help with a problem. Beneteau has a hose attached to the stern tube to lubricate the cutlass bearing. Unfortunately ours has broken off and I need to create a more permanent solution but our boat is in the Bahamas and we are back home in Canada. am hoping someone with a 43 could take a picture of the sterntube area and post it so I can determine how much room we have to come up with a solution to our problem. I…

Thanks God bless.

Hi John

I have a gopro and just started using it at the end of last season. Its a great cam to use for sailing and other adventure sports. what makes it great is all the mountings you can buy or make for it. Last september we attached it to the end of a long stick and filmed the bow cutting through the water at 8knots. you can mount it to anything. Ill be using it this summer and will post some videos.

John, l received an email about a GoPro versus water proof cameras but it looks like the 40/43 site still wont share comments properly so here goes.

I have a GoPro3 that I'm still getting used to. My daughter who was just here for a week has a Panasonic waterproof camera/video. After comparing results of snorkeling videos we think the GoPro produces slightly better videos. There are some differences in the operation between the two. The Panasonic has a screen to view what you're capturing while the GoPro3 does not. It's pretty much aim it and shoot. The more I use it the better the results. With either camera you need to be as still as possible during video or the image will jump around quite a bit. I've only taken a couple of videos while sailing and find that setting it on Normal View works well. Depending on the scene you may get a fisheye look, especially if using as a still camera. Not all bad depending on the scene. The iPhone and iPad have GoPro Apps that allow you to monitor what you're shooting. The App also allows you to download the videos to your phone or tablet. Battery power on the GoPro seems adequate. We snorkeled for better than an hour and I had plenty of power remaining when done. The GoPro also has a long list of mounts available where a normal point and shoot camera does not. I have a short, straight handle that I use and am happy with it.

Can't think of room much more about it but feel free to ask any questions. We're in HopeTown on a mooring for the next week or so. Let me know if you plan on coming over.

John, I received an email via SeaKnots regarding your issue with your fridge and freezer power consumption. I too have a 2008 43 and have done quite a bit to maximize both units efficiency. Note that we live aboard and cruise so it's critical both work well for us.
Not sure how each of your compressors are using that much power. Your friend is right they typically use 3 to 3.5 AHRs each. The only way I can imagine seeing that kind of amp draw is if the variable speed setting on the freezer is set to 3500 RPMs. If you haven't done so already I would have both running and take note of the amp draw. Then using the thermostat control shut one of them off. Take another reading and make note of it. Then turn that unit back on and the other off taking yet another reading. If it's the freezer drawing excessive amps then check for a small circuit pwb on the side of the controller mounted on the back of the compressor. Hopefully you have the manual for the compressor in your owners book. There should be a drawing that indicates which terminals produce the different RPMs. The lower the rpm the lower the amp draw but also the unit won't cool as well. Keep in mind the freezer isn't the same as what we have in a house. They're not as well insulated and as a result run more consuming amps. Between both units you should be seeing an average 3 amps per hour.
There are other things you can do to help efficiency. Make sure you keep the compressor coils clean. You'll have to remove the wood grills that cover each to gain access. I use a small paint brush to reach in and remove the dust that builds up.
We've also place a plastic coated wire rack apx 1" high in the bottom of the freezer. This allows better air flow which results in food on the bottom freezing properly.
Defrost both the fridge and freezer whenever necessary. Heavy frost reduces efficiency which causes the compressor to run longer.
Try to keep air space between food and the walls of the fridge. Again better airflow equals better cooling.
We also keep ice cube trays in the fridge's freezer. Plus we keep synthetic ice cube sheets in the top of the freezer. They're 9x12 sheets we bought online. They come flat and you soak them in water then freeze them. We rotate them in and out of a cooler we keep produce in.
Sorry if I've thrown too much info at you. Let me know what questions you have. If you want to we can talk live. Let me know and I'll share my cell number.
Mike

They work by moving lithium ions between two electrodes — a positive electrode (cathode) and a negative electrode (anode) — through an electrolyte medium. Here’s a breakdown of the process and components:1. Key ComponentsAnode (Negative Electrode): Commonly made of graphite, the anode releases lithium ions during discharge and absorbs them during…See More
