Thanks. It actually looks better in the pics though. It's a bit rough in spots but I'm slowly getting it back in shape. As for the boom travel, yes if not cleated (and if the vang/topping lift allow) it will travel up to the point where the sail slides come out. I don't know enough about using a vang to make use of it so I have it cleated all the way down. I also have a small cam cleat there which I assume is for a cunningham.
I have a 1975 O'Day 25 and mine has a cleat just above the boom vang that allows you to cleat a line from the gooseneck. I don't have any pics handy right now but I'll try to get some.
