if there is a choice between diesel and a hangitofftheback outboard, i would go with the diesel if you have the dough---i did thehangitofftheback outboard on a 26 islander and i wished i had done the diesel trip---is a difference in weight distribution and propulsion-----not to mention boat trim and appearance...

Quick reaction on the outboard vs. diesel question: I have no firsthand experience with an outboard, but a sailing buddy of mine who has an Oday 28 had to repower a couple years ago (the Sail Drive engine system was shot), and he opted to put a 15hp outboard on the transom instead. I can see a couple pros & cons for each (outboard and diesel), but you might want to try searching on some of the better online bulletin boards for archived threads on this question. If you're still in love with the 272 (and why wouldn't you be?), you may have a tough decision facing you. Flip a coin!

Hey there, Billy D! Fancy meeting you here. (Maybe you're the reason I'm here -- if so, thanks for the invite.)

Happy sailing, captain.
