Unveiling the Mysteries: Exploring Evaporation and Boiling

Difference between evaporation and boiling is a very crucial process.

Evaporation and boiling are both processes that involve the transformation of a substance from a liquid state to a gaseous state. However, they differ in several key aspects.

Evaporation is a surface phenomenon that occurs at any temperature below the boiling point of a substance. It happens when the molecules at the surface of a liquid gain enough energy to break free from the liquid's attractive forces and escape into the surrounding air. Evaporation occurs spontaneously, even at room temperature, as long as the liquid is exposed to the air. Examples of evaporation include the drying of wet clothes on a clothesline or the disappearance of a puddle on a hot day.

Boiling, on the other hand, is a bulk phenomenon that occurs when a liquid is heated to its boiling point. The boiling point is the temperature at which the vapor pressure of the liquid equals the atmospheric pressure, causing the liquid to rapidly vaporize throughout its volume. Unlike evaporation, boiling is a vigorous and visible process, characterized by the formation of bubbles within the liquid. These bubbles are created when the liquid reaches a temperature where the vapor pressure is higher than the pressure exerted on the liquid's surface. Boiling is commonly observed when water is heated to its boiling point, resulting in the formation of steam and the production of a rolling boil.
