Thanks Kate..not quite sure what to make of this site.  I love the water and boating...recently ended a relationship where my partner did not like boats...just golf.  Now its my turn to turn to my love of life.  Is this a social site?

Hi, Kate,

Thanks for the nice comment!  My long dreamt of plans to retire, buy a boat and set off on a cruising life are on hold until some real estate sells. So, what I've just done is rented a home (with dock!) on Lake Lanier near Atlanta, Georgia where I work. It's a fairly large lake, about 100 square miles, but, of course, not the same as being at sea. I'm in the market looking for a 20 footer so I can have some fun this summer. Please let me know if you come this way.

Peter

Other than the Azores, the only marina we have visited in Portugal is Lagos and it was great. It's big, close to town and with all the boat services you can ask for!

Yes, we have air conditioning, mainly because we lived aboard first in NY and then in Barcelona (both places very hot and humid in Summer). But once you are at anchor you're fine. Cruising in the Med is always best in June when it's not yet as hot, there are no crowds and prices are a bit lower. Safe travels!

Kate,

Truly, your last statement is a wise one. I gave up trying to convince friends to become sailors. Rather, I leave an open invitation. You are right, it is much easier to make friends with sailors. Enjoy your adventures. Our ships just might pass one night, , , my big voyages will start in June 2012 with mini trips between now and then around the east coast of Florida. Best wishes for safe sailing.

I'm so jealous....I'd love to be where you are...and Dingle is great. Never sailed there, but was there via bus tour a few years ago.

Welcome aboard the world of solo sailors. As much as I enjoy sailing with compatable crew I tend to be one who does what I want, when I want, and how I want. Ideally, I'll meet up with other solo sailors with whom we can do some caravan voyages. Having just brought my new boat home, immediate plans include a two week cruise to Key West over the xmas holiday; followed by a round trip from Florida to NY harbor in June of 2012. Where are you????????

One day at a time, one detail at a time, you will sail at the right time! Be safe, Marlene

Things are muddling along in California, Kate. The wind is kicking up as a storm system bears down on the San Francisco bay area with rain expected Friday. Got the solar panels lashed down and put out more chain for wind and waves. I've loads of hilarious videos, but I must show judicious restraint for those members here with sensitive tastes.

Cheap flights gets better soon, Kate, as Ryan Air is proposing selling stand up tickets where you don't get to sit at all. There will be a backboard of sorts sporting a torso restraint and there will be several rows of these in the back of the plane, more, if they become popular. This will allow the airline to stuff more bodies aboard. It may save the traveler a few pounds - for awhile...
I've heard about the the economic troubles in the Emerald Isle and how quickly they have beset the country. Things must be tough.

If you get to the Chesapeake Bay again, you are welcome to sail with this Derry born sailor who grew up in this area. I was back in Ireland a couple of years ago, but did not get to do any sailing there. I guess I will just have to bring my own boat next time.
