Hi, you two...Been way too long w/o contact. I am getting braver and the boat has been brought up to par and she is ready to sail...so will be doing sone explorations. Mostly along the shores...so I can still see land lol.
Where have you been ?, and tell me about your lives
How are my little lovebirds, or should i say teddy bears? Where have you 2 been off to? I am sailing more and will never forget learning how to back out of my slip...Thank you.

Hi Lou & Meg, Sorry about that earlier... puter froze up.. and yes, I'm the one who's going to go to Lola's end of March. Chat with you soon.
Fair winds..
Yes, you are 100% Correct, we miss sailing big time. What makes it worse is visiting the boat once or twice a week to do some winter projects.
The mack pack uses a new set of lazy jack lines, mounted higher on the mast then the stock lines. Mine are above the second spreader (you can see them in the video I posted). You can get price information and more info here; http://macksails.com/mackpack.htm They are nice folks and you can call them for info as well. Many folks on the Yahoo Gem forum have the mackpack and some questions asked there will reveal the folks love them. Big plus of the system is it needs no modification to the sail. (I am in no way connected with Mack Sails, just like the product).
Dave,
Thanks for the nice compliment. I read your bio and Meg and I are quite envious of all the traveling you have done. We will not be able to travel like that until retirement in 5 more years.
Thanks for the info. One of the many nice things about California is that our "down time" due to weather is shorter than where you sail. Hopefully, we'll get out this weekend for a few hours. I can see that you miss being out there now.
In the usd of tghe MackPack, do you still use the reefing system that is set up in the current Seldom boom system once the bag is down? When you get to it, perhaps a picture of it in operation would help. Also, how much did it roughly cost?
The bag is a MackPack, and it uses lazyjack like lines running through grommets in the bag. It has a zipper at the top and the main falls right inside the bag. In order to reef there are several twist snaps on the mast. I release them on the starboard side (takes 5 seconds). The bag is then dropped down and I have access to the reefing rings. Once reefed, the bag is refastened and the flaked sections store right inside of the bag, quick and neat. Once in a while the battens get caught in the lazy jack lines when raising the main. Usually this happens in very light wind or when the boat is not lined up exactly in the wind while hoisting. In 3 years we have never have trouble dropping the main (even in 30 knots of wind). The lazy jack lines only are a hassle sometimes when raising the main.
Glad you liked the video, no sailing here this time of the year, boat on the hard. The video reminds us of all the fun moments we had sailing and gives a much needed sailing "fix" this time of the year. I will be sure to make some more and keep you posted.
Your video was great. You can call it a circumnavigation: around Long Island. Keep me posted on other videos you do.
I was interested in your main sail bag. The lazy jacks do not work well. Do you have any trouble reefing with the sail bag.
