There are so many stars when sailing out in the middle of Lake Michigan at 2am that you don't need flashlights. It's so bright you can trim sails, see the deck of the boat, details of the waves. Stranger yet is the glow from all the cities peppering the horizon.

I'm the same with the a.m. watches. We had a huge yellow full moon a few nights ago & i was walking up the driveway thinking...oh, to be on the water tonite.. Yes, I saw incredible stars sailing in the BVI's. So very different.

I like the 2-6am watch. The stars are usually incredible, followed by the sunrise. Last summer I was driving at 4am in fog so thick you could only see 200ft. The moon was up so everything had this faint glow to it. Very surreal.
