From marinating in the fear of setting off alone to stirring up the emotional high of silently sailing across still waters, it is this picture that reminds me of how lucky I am. Back in the mid 1980s when Sam Bradfield was designing small hydrofoils, using old Hobie 16s as the prototype I idled away many hours as one of his test pilots. To witness his most recent design, this 17 footer, was a gratifying event. Then, a year later the America's Cup was raced on these dynamic machines. What a tribute to Sam!
