I saw a Gulfstar ?64 drop a little (is there such a thing) when the aft sling frayed/parted...over water, but not much water ....what a noise ! Kid standing on deck almost went overboard. Owner had just gone to get a coffee. Told by some of the guys..straps old, should have been retired long ago.

You're not kidding on the letting go moment...boat too small! Made me think of Sail Magazine's..What did we do wrong, what did we do right? Checked Sailflow when I got home.. wind went from nothing to somthing and from the north to south just like that. Don't like that rail in the water as you're doing a 360 and not moving..lol. On the way into slip wind so strong on the nose..i purposely overshot my slip a little...gusting stopped (of course) and I went nicely into the slip...my neighbors! Glad he wasn't in yet. :-)

Was a nice sail extremly mild... then wind picked up a bit..doing 6.5 knots... then whamo.. slammed.. thought we were going to go over. Still in a state of puckerment....we (5) all had to go out for a drink after.

In the future, you can INSIST that they tie the slings together to keep them from slipping.

I have had that happen to my boat, Luckily it was over water with plenty of depth so no damage. One bit of insurance is to have them tie the slings together.
