Don't take the keel bolt loose until you have given it some thought. You're going to need a strong back. As I recall, the keel weighs 500 pounds. One of these years I plan to tak her to a boat shop where they can put her in a sling and replace the keel cable and repaint the bottom.
The Venture is a fun boat to sail, not a racer, but just the thing for day sails. Just curious about the swing keel. Have you ever tought of how you would handle a cable break? Our slip is in very shallow water, and I have to crank the keel 2/3 up to get in. Have you heard of a method for getting the keel up if the cable breaks?
Also, it would be handy to have a keel position indicator instead of counting turns of the crank. Has anyone invented an indicator yet or should I get to work on it?
