Welcome aboard! I beat you by one day. Since I joined up yesterday the number of members has doubled. I guess there's a lot of us in Florida. I also am on several other boards like Latts & Atts and Renegade.

Hey there Mel, you crazy woman boat driver. Welcome aboard SeaKnots. Chuck (Soulmates) was here for a month, and I was suprised to hear you're the one that took over the slip he was in down there in Miami. Hope you're enjoying that Hunter.

Hi Emee! I think this is YOU! I joined SeaKnots. Can I add you as a friend? Sandy
  • Melissa Renee

Hi Sandy.. Welcome aboard... of course you can!
  • Nels

Ah, weekday sailing, must be nice. With the family and work we are restricted to mostly weekend sailing. We haven't been to no name yet, mostly sail south but have been thinking of going there sometime. What is your SV name, ours is Hog Heaven, we will try and hail you on the VHF this Saturday when we are out.

Would love to see photos...have any? Welcome to our FEMALE GROUP

Hi Melissa, thanks for the offer. I will definitely let you know. Unfortunately, I'm tied up a bit with elder care this month . My mom had cataract surgery, and due to other problems she needs help until her eye heals, but I love sailing the bay and will let you know.

  • Suky

    Hi Melissa,
Sorry I missed you this morning on chat. Sometimes I get called away and I'm stilll on there for hours..
Please keep posting as you're moved to. You inspire me. I had missed that you said New Jersey in your profile. What's that about ? Would love to get together.

    Hi Melissa,
I always enjoy your reading your comments. Learn something almost every time. Your expereicne and knowledgte is are definitely inspiring! The winter is gone and due to some parental duties ( my mom), didn't get much sailing in, and never got to see you in Biscayne. I'm "assuming" you've headed out for the summer? I will be sailing in the Bahamas for a week in June, but hope to connect with you some time agin.
  • Pam

    Thanks... will do so.
I'm doing Hospice Regatta in Fort Lauderdale next week. I may be looking for a day sail Memorial day weeken, but will need to get ready for my Bahama trip. But if you'll be in town that weekend, let me know and maybe we can hook up.
  • Terri

Ahoy there knowing one! Got any pearl's of wisdom for backing out of slip trying to head north (only way out) with a northerly abeam?? Walking her out isn't an option..too much in the way..like piling with huge metal pipe bracket and powerboat swim platforms. Going with a hired capt tomorrow at noon to practice...nervous as hell. Had a plan which went to hell quickly last time tried.
  • Terri

just had a thought..bet he's going to say back all the way out.. could do..but shallow at end, have to cut it to port and head west. trying to think if I'd get blown back while doing that. geez...we'll see tomorrow
  • Melissa Renee

Terri.. back out of the slip and use a springline around the piling. As you get 85% of the way, out of ths slip, tighten down on the springline. It will move the stern around as you continue to back out of the slip. Tie off up wind too.
  • Alice Heiman

Thanks, I will check it out.
  • Terri

Hey Melissa, Suppose to be nice here next few days..awesome wind. Sat..from the nw, may try your technique. Still nervous about swim platforms on powerboats on either side. Will have two boathooks at the ready, just in case. Have a great weekend!!! Don't have to say "stay warm" ..lucky Sailorette! :-)
  • Melissa Renee

Good luck with the docking. It always makes me nerveous. Always. Currntly on the hook in Key Largo Keys!
  • Terri

Docking makes you nervous! and what u do for a living...I kinda like the glide path of a sailboat better!! LOL Have a great week! Will probably only sail for 5 hours, but suppose to be nice with my kind of wind... SW ..lol
  • Suky Cannon

Hi Melissa, Hope you're enjoying your spot ! I'm in NYC til Monday or Tuesday... leaving with the tides .. the trip down the East River was piece of cake... getting into slip at 79th Street Boat Basis was NOT... current is wicked in Hudson. Can't wait to be getting south.. take care..
  • Terri

Okay...so i'm going to attempt the northwind broadsides move on friday..with extra crew, two boat hooks and springlines. What am I doing with the motor during all this? Will having it in reverse a bit swing the bow (hopefully away from all) into fairway ?? then i let it all loose and run for my life??? Tiller to starboard a bit..will stern want to kick back in towards dock? i'm thinking yes..so i do it ever so gently???
  • Terri

Hi, I went down to boat yesterday to meet with the welder, did that..easy fix..allegedly. Friend.sick with cold...other crew getting boat ready to launch next week and under the weather also..me..still fighting a cold. So went out to dinner and gazed longingly at Twizzled from across the cove restaurant, came back..read, fell asleep on boat, woke up at 3:30 and drove home...should be sailing today aint...unhappy sailorette.
  • Terri

Morn'n... was hoping to sail sat., looks like a washout. Here's my next (lol) boat...I don't mind the aft cabin...crew can make up the forward bunk! http://www.buy-a-boat.com/Gozzard44_1999.htm only 399k :

  • Terri

http://www.lyndasusanhennigan.com/nautical.htm Like this artist's work. I prefer the more traditional designs. I'm looking for the octagon boxes now at a reasonable cost...can be pricey.
  • Terri

Ahoy there Matey! Time for mittens, scarves and long undies!!! Then you'll be ready to sail! Brrrrrr...is a wee bit chilly ain't it!
  • LOLA

Hi Melissa, how have you been? I wonder what you are up to these days.

  • Terri

I bet she'll have plenty of stories..can't wait
  • Ken Honeycutt

    Melissa,

Mellissa...Don't know anyone who needs a mainsail but our season hasn't started yet so someone may be looking for one later. I've been thinking about getting a battened mainsail myself..anxious to hear how you like it. I purchased a Doyle utility power sail this winter....can't wait to try it out in light air. Next would be the battened main or a folding prop but that will have to wait (blew my sailing budget this year on the UPS)..
  • Terri

http://members.iinet.net.au/~pontipak/redsquare.html Can u do it for 18 seconds?? Allegedly AF gives this test to fighter pilots.. me ..can't last half a second..rofl.
  • Terri

Now wouldn't that be fun.... the Sailors vs. Sailorettes....two boats..hmmmm... an idea for the future :-)
  • Terri

Geezus, I guess u do!!! Does this mean my only lasting a half a second..would mean a heat seeking missle would go up my kazoo??? dang... guess I was born to raise primates, herd nuns & sail slooooowwwww.....lol
  • Terri
