About Me:
I'm a marine biologist/physical oceanographer working with an international organization in Seychelles. Originally from Venezuela, but I have lived in several places for the past 25 years, and in Seychelles for the last 9 years.

Our boat is a kurt reinke 46’ steel cutter. We have been sailing it around Seychelles. The boat is now on the dry for long refit in preparation to go full time cruising with the family next year. We are approaching full-time cruising as an experiment so far. Let’s see how the kids (4 of them :-) adapt to it.

    WELCOME

First off...WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY, and your photo skills are outstanding.

Your boat looks very capable..tell me more about the boat, and do you have pictures of the inside.

Wow 4 children on a boat...you will have to share how that goes. It will be a real living education. I know
a family w 2 children, and the parents have to endure a great deal. You signed up with the proper group.

Your family looks very happy..I wish you all well. I am requesting to be friends.

With friends...you can send message under persons name,
where it says send a message. Have a great day.

    Thanks L.O.L.A,

Boat is capable, came all the way to Seychelles from Russia with a bad skipper and worst crew. They actually put the boat on the reef here, on a perfectly well marked channel. Go figure. The interior is very rough and spartan too. Russians boatyards do excellent steel work, but apparently are not that great on the carpentry side :-). I find boat is on the smallish side, considering my 4 kids, but that's what we have. With the economic recession we'll be having for the next years, a bigger boat is totally out of the question.

Hi Marco - thanks for the message... yes, we were in the Seychelles for 8 months then headed for Maldives, Indonesia and Malaysia (Langkawi) for three months then a month in Thailand and now we are in Panang and heading South.. it would have been great meeting you and the family! We have been sailing for two and a half years from SA with our three teenagers, now 15, 16 and 17 and it has been wonderful! I found that sailing with kids can be real trying but if you have been adventurous with your kids they seem to get into the sailing rather easily and can surprise you! Your pics are wonderful! Have you met Sally and Richard on Taylor? Or Ron on Cha-lee?
Anyways, hope you don't mind that I added you - you never know if you may come down to these parts....
  • Marco Garcia

Hi Jenny, That's the way we are heading on march next year. Chagos, Maldives, Sri Lanka (may be), Thailand and Indonesia. So if you guys are still around, we might get to meet anyway. Never met Sally, Richard or Ron. I have stayed away from SYC for some time (only go there for lunch, since it's so close to my office). My boat is on the dry, so don't get to use the dingy dock that much. In any case, happy to know that you guys are still around (in the IO) and enjoying cruising.

Congrats on the fine electric job. !

Ok, to those of you that have commented about the pictures, and to be fair: First thanks, and second, most of them have been taken by my wife, who happens to be very artistic (she's a stain-glass/fuse glass artist).

My X and Son are like you...My son can do anything...I tell you it is amazing..built his house..knows all..can take apart anything and fix it...hes quick too..on his feet....I actually have him walking on water...lol...wish he lived closer...he has dibs on my BOAT and MGB ...yes the MGB works and is in great order...I do a little work on it too...my retirement job is now to learn about my boat,...engine...and sailing.
Does your wife have stainglass nautical art she can post in our ART GROUP?

    hope all is well...

Hi DWS. Everything is alright on this side of the world. Good news is the boat is back on the water. The bad news is that the engine is overheatiing, so there's still more work ahead to find out the reason.... I suspect is a bad thermostat, since the engine was teste on the dry several times without problems. I'll post some pictures of the launching soon.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

Hey Marco...sorry to hear about engine. Hopefully you'll be sailing soon! Cold here..boat on the hard :-( Have a Merry Christmas!!
  • Marco Garcia

Hi Terri, well that's life. At least I'm saving the money I would have to pay to the boatyard :-). It is hard to have enough patience to deal with these things, but then, I'm a very patient person. You have to when you have that many children :-).

Have a merry chritsmas too. We are moving to the boat just after chritsmas!
  • Marco Garcia

Hi LOLA. Thanks so much. I also wish you a merry chritsmas.Nice video/song.

as it happens, the engine was overheating because of several air pockets on the hose between the solenoid and the heat exchanger. So after all, the engine is running great. Tomorrow trolling day for me, to test the engine for a whole day, and may be have some fun in the processs.... After two days of depression, and trying to cheer myself up from no having a working engine, I had a beutiful sunny day with an engine that is purring like a cat.I love my boat again...

Good thing. I was gonna trade ye my workin engine for a hamock on your beach,,,if that wouldve cheered ye up.

Glad to hear your up and going.
