Met Franc & Andrea while sailing on Can Drac recently, and was introduced to this site, I am a USCG licensed 100 GT captain with about 10K offshore miles. My last trip, other than the one I met Franc, was moving my`1977 36' Allied Princess Ketch from Boston to Ft Myers this past fall. It was mostly a solo 2000 mile trip with my pug gal pale, Queen Olivia.
We, Queen Olivia and I, now live aboard in Ft Myers, Fl and look forward to some serious cruising this winter; as opposed to freezing in Boston Harbor. However, Olivia would like company because she is tired of doing all the work. We are long time liveaboards because we love the lifestyle, but much more enjoy being on the water.
My purpose on this site is to meet sailing friend with whom I can sail. I am totally new to the Ft Myers, Florida, area so it is starting a new life for me. It will be a wonderful adventure.
Current location:
Ft Myers
Destinations visited:
Entire East Coast - Nova Scotia to Miami, Bermuda in and out to Newport, RI, BVI, entire ICW, Maine, New England including the Elizabeth Islands (Cuttyhunk is a fav) and Martha's Vineyard, Block Island , Newport, etc. Learned most of my "big boat" sailing on Lake Champlain.
Looking to:
Do Keys, Dry Tortugas and Bahamas next, then the Lesser Antilles. I'm thinking St Barts would be a wonderful place to spend the winter!!! I'll do it alone if I have to, but would prefer friends along to enjoy the cruising life as Olivia isn't much of a snorkeler!!!
Hi Tom -- The Sailing Club is based in northern New Jersey. We charter in various locations including the Chesapeake Bay, Florida, Caribbean, British Columbia, Great Lakes, ... Visit www.thesailingclub.org
Hi Tom -- we have several members in Florida (refugees from NJ), including Punta Gorda. We chartered from Burnt Store a few years ago and went north to Sarasota and back in about a week. There has been talk of another trip in the area, but on the immediate (2009) calendar we're going to the Chesapeake, great lakes, San Fran, and the Bahamas. One of our skippers just created the group here, so hardly any of our members have found it. As more do, those who can offer advice will turn up.
I would be very interested in discussing your proposal regarding sailing in each of our areas.... I'll email you my contacts. Thanks.
I'm flying to Myrtle Beach this weekend to hopefully do some sailing in S.C. with Lola.
darn ... sounds like we just missed being in same area by a day or so. Would've been nice to meet ... I will email. The boat exchange would be great if we determine ok ...
I believe the photo is thru Boatpics.com - I'll look it up. My boat is an "82 Pacific Seacraft Orion 27' (31' lol) ..... we survived Ike :) much of marina didn't.
well I thought this was "The Capt Tom" I know ..................hello to you from Barbara onboard Topaz. I was wondering what happened to you. I just got back on Sunday from Ft. Myers!!! If I had known you were there I would have visited you. Glad to see you are sailing..............and made it safely to Fl.
Condo is located off Cypress Lake Dr and near McGregor. I've taken an ASA 101 course. Helped out on a 65ft Irwin (cook/bottle washer) Never have gotten sea sick. Not afraid to work. I prefer warmer weather (why I don't live in OH anymore)
Hi again ... spring will be best sailing here ... the next few winter months create very shallow water and 'damp' cold that goes thru you .... I'm just back and catching up, but will write email soon to discuss.
Your not the only one who fled the brutal cold of New England. I just moved from Boston to the Galveston area this summer. I'm a mature, conservative sailor who is looking for a simiar type trip in early spring of 2009 from 7 days up to 6 weeks. I'd like to gain some offshore experience and see a few nice places too. I'm able to pay my fair share of expenses. Did you have any set dates in mind? I would like to learn more about your plans. Thanks. Tim H.
Capt. Tom,
I'm in Fishermen's Village in Punta Gorda... but, it's a limited time engagement... fore I move to Legacy Harbour Marina, which is right down the "street" from the Ft. Myers Yacht Basin ;)
so, we should definitely connect in FTM!!!
Current plan is to head out of Punta Gorda on Dec. 27th and sail for a bit then head up the river to FTM on Jan 4th.
cute pug ;)

Hope all goes well with your sail !
After I head out of Punta Gorda on the 27th (weather permitting...), I'll be heading down to the Ten Thousand Island for some gunk holing before heading back up to Ft. Myers. I'll send you a message with contact info :)
warm wishes and a sunny holiday :)
Tom,
After you click on +add music, you should see a downloader program come up (java based). It takes a while for it to appear so be patient. It first comes up as a white window, and is hard to tell if anything is happening.
Once the downloader comes up, there should be some folders on the left hand column. I usually move my songs into my "documents" folder then I just click on it an pick the song file.
Most of the time I just go to Amazon.com and download purchase one song at a time (99 cents). Then I move the song into my documents folder to access from the downloader program on SeaKnots.
I'm the wrong person to be asking about uploading songs..i needed help to figure out the playlist jukebox...as of right now, can't hear a thing since adding yahoo chat... puter going to techy friend this week at some point..hopeless in the department of electronic tecnology... How's Olivia do'in? Hope well. ttyl Terri, still freez'in in Ma.
Hey Capt. Tom! How are you doing? Hope all going well for you and the Queen! Staying in tonite..it's me, Sooty & Thomas and a roaring fireplace..with cheezits & wine ..lol... so low mtce. I've sailed out of Scituate, wondering if your friend is talking about the docks near the old y.c., near the Harbormaster's?? Nice area, always liked sailing down there. Like your music! Take care, Terri P.S. raining here.. :-(
Hi Tom, you load the picture of Olivia in Pets group the way you did your pictures. Go there and click on the black square, can make comment too before you send it. Love your opera music.
