I like to be on and around the water - I've a 21 foot Sirius sailboat - plus a bunch of other water craft that probably total about 80 feet at the water line when joined end on end (kayaks, canoes, sailboats, motorboats). Up until the last few years I've mostly been a day sailor and I'm now trying to build up my cruising experience through courses, charters and friends.
I heard about this site from Good Old Boat - and thought I'd check it out. I always enjoy hearing/reading about others adventures and experiences - and maybe I'll have some of my own to add someday.
You will see by my location that I am Canadian. And I offer this you tube video to help explain how we differ from our American cousins...eh:
Heading into the long Muskoka Canadian winter - just got the boat tucked away for winter.
Destinations visited:
Not much that's exotic - North Channel, Georgian Bay; Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia; Parry Sound, Georgian Bay; British Virgin Islands; Abacos, Arctic Ocean (but I didn't sail there, I took a ship...as a passenger...just seeing if you're paying attention).
Looking to:
Continue to add to my experience sailing - and meet others who enjoy sailing for fun.
Heading into the winter and planning my escape - a couple weeks in the BVIs - that should help make the winter pass a bit more quickly!
Ahoy Anne, Grew up at family places on Georgian Bay Island and private lake on 118 near Vankoughnet not far from LOB. Don't sell North Channel short, It's internationally recognized as one of the two or three BEST cruising grounds in the world and it's effectively in your backyard. Cheers, Arthur
I was just cruising the profiles and came across yours. Mahone Bay is a place I'd very much like to visit. My smaller boat is a 1966 McVay Falcon 16' that was built there. I used to correspond regularly with members of the McVay family and they shared some lovely photos of the place.
Hi Anne,
The picture of the Mahone Bay dock is a classic. Should be published in Wooden Boat! With your permission would like to add it to my collection and use as desk top background.
Hello Anne,
I saw your profile and realized you are going to the Abaco's in April. We went last year and rented a house and a 22' Albury boat. What a great area. Don't miss the Light House at Hope Town, Nippers on Sunday and Cracker P's for lunch and the view. If you like to dine out I would recommend the Abaco Inn, which has a great view. We are sailing this April out of St. Martin. Have fun, Bill
Anne-
Thanks, the article was fun. Sisiutl is a great boat and a blast to sail in the PNW waters. Definitely looking forward to summer and some warmth (yep, it snowed here last night....)
