Just a week sailing course in Annapolis and crewing with friends off the North Shore in Massachusetts, so nothing exotic......yet!

    An Oday 272LE? You lucky sailor! That was my first boat, and I absolutely LOVED it, as I'm sure you will. If I can provide any insights into this wonderful boat, don't hesitate to ask. And one of these days, when you get more comfortable with sailing the boat, you'll have to attend the Northeast O'day Owners "rOnDAYvous". In fact, why not drive down this weekend to the Chelsea YC on the Hudson and join the fun?

    Sally, Hello! Just ended my charter season in the BVI, put the boat on the hard for Huricane season. In CT now for 3 weeks. go to VT this weekend.

    appreciated the nod, and the compliments. yes, last night as a matter of fact, before dropping off to sleep, it occurred to me how much work and responsibility are involved in boat ownership. in first considering the life of yachting one is struck by the glamor and glee. but...with time truth dawns. and i am able to draw a parallel with my having chosen to relinquish the worries and woes of home ownership in favor of an apartment, for which someone else bears all the burdens. then, the concept 'parasitic' enters the mind, and one has no trouble abandoning the subject altogether in favor of sleep.

    truth is, the type of toil being considered finally becomes an aspect of love for true yacht aficionados. have no doubt at all your new adventure will be all positive and thoroughly rewarding. may true fulfillment come to sally.

    Sally, you missed a helluva good time at the O'day rOnDAYvous. I just got back yesterday, and I'm still riding the high of a really fun weekend hanging out with a couple dozen fellow O'day owners. Lots of good food, drink, live music and socializing with friends old and new. You would have been the only 272LE owner there. Next year, perhaps?

    Hi Sally... The exact dates for the 2009 rOnDAYvous have not yet been set (neither has the location), but I feel safe in saying that it will be one of the two mid-July weekends. In other words, either the weekend after the 4th of July (the 10th through 12th) or the following one. If you're willing to make it the first item on your 2009, I'll make sure that you're the very first person I share the news with. Oh, and good luck with the house sale.

    Ahoy Sally,
    I went to college in New Hampshire in the White Mountsins. Now I prefer the Caribbean. I am a US Sailing Certified Instructor through Coastal Passage Making and Navigation. I taught at the Offshore Sailing School out of Tortola in the BVI and am moving to Puerto Rico in a year or so. You must have a short season in NEw Hampshire. I have been in San Francisco Bay for many many years and it is very cold hear in the fog in the summer.

    Hi Lola! I so admire you for tackling those seas! The next time around should seem easy, no? I haven't been out by myself yet as I'd hoped...a combination of selling-my-house issues, divorce stuff and problems with my boat's engine. I have enjoyed using her as a get-away place in her berth. So everything's forward movement and good.....just not sailed by myself...YET!

    Sally, I'm a relatively novice cruiser myself. My recommendation is to not sail it alone...take along a crew member, it will be so much more fun and safer too!
