I left Sarasota, Fl with a partner in 1996 for the keys in a 35' Morgan. Stayed around the Keys until February, 1998 when we crossed over to Bimini and down the chain. I bought a CT47 in Grenada and sold the Morgan. My partner got tired of the life in 2004 and left, leaving me to singlehand for the next 3 years until I sold the boat in early 2007.
Current location:
Port Orange, Fl
Destinations visited:
From Florida through the Bahamas, Turks & Caucos, DR, Puerto Rico, Virgins and down the island chain to Trinidad and Venezuela.
Looking to:
Hopefully meet someone who wants to go cruising full time. I would love to go back out again, I missed the Western Caribbean and I've heard it's great over there.

Thats mind blowin'. I was just in Kemah a week ago. LOL.
Yeah, I too try to avoid painting myself in a corner. The evac. plan for our southern region has been reconsidered since Rita hit. They'll close I-45 Southbound down, well north of me, and open the southbound lanes for northerly travelers.
Wouldnt want to have to leave Galveston Isle, chancing getting stuck behind a less than roadworthy rust bucket(s).
Ive shunned jobs that required relocating to your area for similar reasons, where the reasons only compound(cost of living, insurance issues, crime...).
Refused northern placement as well, too damn cold and can imagine the hassle. I guess winter in some northern areas to be equalivalent to a hurricane here, only lasting every day for months!
I may be a lil' far fetched with that.
Getting into the subject of where is the cheapest cost of living would be to much detail and research to enjoy. LOL. Lord all the factors to consider.
I always felt Florida to be an island. Texas to some may seem like the final frontier where people are still given land if the promise to homestead it w/in a year, lol. Havent done the homework to say, but with the increase prices on everything these days(staples in mind) everywhere should be about even. Getting into homes, sizes and markets is beyond my wanting to fathom, seeing Im not in the market to-date.
So were ye on land when ye experienced the weather in the Carib's onboard/at sea? How did ye manage?
hi betty, so you were out on the boat for 10 yrs? was it hard singlehanding for 3 yrs? would you do it again or would you have a partner? do you have a boat now? i would like to be friends.
What are some of the things ye would do different next time ye cast off. What boat are wishing ye had at this moment? Why? What are looking for in crew?
hi betty chris in cocoa beach here. send me a line if you need crew. im verry good around boats. i do fiberglass repair, woodwork, rigging and am an electrical engineer. ispend alot of time in new semerna so im not too far away. chris
Hi Betty, I am reading your profile and it kinda sounds like my life a little. I have found my self alone on a 42 pearson ketch. I just look at the dingy motor and scratch my head......then I go meet the neighbors to get it up. Got any advice for single hander? I have some sailing under my belt. Barbara
I am a liveaboard so this is my home and I am in school....so full time crusing is out for 2 years...(if I can hold out) I am getting my RN degree. All my friends are out there and I go to their web sites or go visit them in the carib. I have crewed on a few boats. A 32 west sail I crewed on ended up in the bermuda triangle on my birthday in the middle of a hurricane( little one 70 knots) and thought well........god if you want me here I am but I am tired and I am going to bed. It was an interesting trip.......first blue water trip and all heavy weather........good experience. But that was a long long time ago. I haven't forgotten but I sure do feel rusty. I have been aboard 6 years now cruising around here .....I love going to Maine ........especially NE Harbor.
HI BETTY. I'M NEW HERE. CURRENTLY IN GEORGE TOWN TIL FALL(?), THEN HEADING SOUTH. I'VE BEEN FULL TIME FOR THE LAST 20+ YEARS. CARE TO JOIN ME? I'VE 2 NEIGHBORING BOATS HERE IN THE ANCHORAGE THAT HAVE THE SAME PLANS.
FAIR WINDS,
ROD
Well I hope everything goes well for you, I did find a few new leaks in the driving rain and wind. It has finally gotten below 30 kts but quite a few passing thunderstorms just to the north and some light rain

I am new to seaknots, but I like the idea. I share your passion for sailing, This last spring was my first experience in the BVI on a Beneteau 46. Loved it look forward to more. I am in the final years of my working career, and working on getting the sailing kitty well stocked. I would enjoy hearing more from from you. Rod

Was that your worst storms to have experienced?
