Teak? Shelves for magazines, wine glasses, dishes, wine bottles

I have seen these on boats but don't know if they can be bought or have to make yourself (yikes). I want to get rid of the Catalina formica gigantic folding table that is hung from bulkhead and replace with a shelf about 4 feet long by maybe 18" wide with shelves for dishes, wine glasses and magazines, books. Does anyone know where I can one? Or maybe the plans to make one? thanks, Terri

    Terri,

Wat you can buy "off the shelf" are smaller items. You can see the range from Westmarine.com, when you type in teak in the search field.

If you want a larger item, just draw what you want, and ask a capenter/cabinet maker to make it for you. Then you can mount it and varnish it yourself.

Look at Lola's photos if you want to see an example. From memory her boat has one of those.

Some boats has a folding table from the bulkhead, but behind the table is the bookshelf etc. Teak table. That way you do not loose the table. If you throw away the table, what do you use as a dining/map table?

My plan is to go medium to long term coastal cruising. So I reserve the same spot for a LCD TV. Just an alternative use of the same space.

terri---what can ye find as used items --search well prior to going for the 80 dollars/board foot wood (might be more now--i donot know)---plus labor for the creation of this gorgeous table/stow area---there should be some boats being salvaged that have this kind of item at least started....goood luck--and if i see one, i will send linky--another thought is to decoupage a map to the table top --or a chart of your favorite destination--that covers or replaces the formica and ta-daa--less than a mllion dollars for a quick fix.....
