A place for the Cal owners to talk about anything from there day sail to their bottom paint.
  • Bradley A Destache

Just a start....There are no really good areas for Cal sailboat owners. Maybe this will take off.

  • Reggie

    Hi group,
We have had our 1970 Cal 34, KILLICK, for the past 23 years...now she's allmost perfect.
  • Bradley A Destache

Well this is quite a nice group of Cal owners and lovers. It is great to be able to see another persons joy in sailing a solid boat.
  • John Berens

    Re: Hank on jib
We added a Furlex system to our Cal 34 about 10 years ago. Truly one of the best improvements ever.
  • Marc

    Hey Debbie,
Changing to a roller furling jib will be the best money you ever spent on your boat! The ease of use will make all the difference.
  • John Marston

I'm refurbishing a war torn Cal 29 that JUST WONT SINK. Its been through sooo much and keeps on keepin on!
  • Leonard Reeves

Aloha Cal sailors, Please have a good thought for my sailing partner/co-owner JohnO as he undergoes torn rotator cuff surgery tomorrow (Tues). We got to go on a short motor sail this morning before I had to go to work. We saw many humpbacks and enjoyed what may be his last ride for a few weeks. He'll be ballast for about three months after that. Rehab to follow. Our motto, "getting old a'int for sissies!"
    Mahalo,
    Leonard

Just joined to let all know about my website which has a lot about a Cal 29 and single handed offshore in 1997-8. Might be helpful although I swallowed the anchour about 10 years ago. http://rdarcy.net -top of page

Aloha Cal sailors, Here's a pic of a 29 in drydock recently. Turned out real good! Had some blisters, but still stolid. We're going tomorrow. Wind has been light and variable...

    It's what's for dinner!
  • Dan McCutcheon

Had WindSwept out last weekend in the bay. Under full sail, first time since I got her last fall. What a blast, I'm just not used to that kind of speed. I've got a lot of learning ahead of me.
  • Dan McCutcheon

Loren. WindSwept is a Cal-43, hull number 7. Looking for anybody with same. Not very many made (14) so information is limited.
  • Leonard Reeves

    Howzit Loren,
Yes, we get to sail 2-3 times a week if schedules work out. Don't live aboard, just coastal cruising on O'ahu (Northshore). Slip is in Haleiwa and summer is the most productive for fishing. We try different combinations of bait rigs and regular skirted lures while trolling. Anywhere from 3-6 kts. Always nice to get a hook-up to go along with the sailing. That and my mother-in-law likes me a lot better when I give her fish...
    Aloha ka'kou,
    Leonard

PS- Dan-Try google Lapworth designs for info on the 43. I think he designed that one too..
  • Leonard Reeves

Howzit JIm, Congrats on the "new" vessel! Hope that you folks enjoiy the rest of the summer. Welcome to the forum. Great boat, as are most all Cals. We're hoping to move up eventually. Good luck.
    Leonard Cal27 T/2
  • Leonard Reeves

Howzit Loren, Sanding? Better you than me! Just kidding. It's been a fun filled sailing year since our last haul in Aug/08. Get the work done and reap the benefits. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend! Hope the sailing is good. Post a pic when done.
    Aloha ka'kou,
    Leonard

Howzit Cal people, Not much going on here... I jumped ship yesterday for a ride on my friends Offshore 41. Great day off Waikiki, with the women's Molokai canoe race coming in. Good wind, good rum!
    Aloha ka'kou,
    LR
  • Leonard Reeves

    My mistake, Offsore 40!
  • Leonard Reeves

Octobers can be so nasty, or they can be so perfect. Its was a blue bird day here this Saturday in the San Juan Islands. I took my Cal 29 out for a bit. Just practicing sailing in and out of the tricky narrow waterway at Fisherman's bay without starting the engine was enough to work up a sweat. Cold at night though! Fall is definitely in the air.
  • Leonard Reeves

NICE! Washington state? NICE! Trades have vacated Hawaii for the last few days... Hot HOT. Have fun over there.
    LR
  • Richard A. Labadie
