As I specialize in 12 string guitars, I am partial to Leo Kottke.

What a yutz! I forgot to add the link for Eric Bogle:

Mark:

I feel your pain about being in a cover band and playing some songs way--y-y too many times. (Still, you have to keep the drink-buying fans happy, or at least pacified.)

Here's a link you might appreciate -- to the lyrics for a song by Eric Bogle, "Do You Sing Any Bob Dylan." Same sentiment as what you're expressing, with a different point of reference.

Pete C:

Guitarists who inspire me? Wow, how long a list do you want?!?

Actually, I guess, there are those who inspire me, and those who simply amaze me. (Sometimes the lists overlap.) But let's just say that some of my current and/or long-time faves include Eric Clapton (I'm old enough to remember the "Clapton Is God" lapel buttons), Mark Knopfler, The Edge, Carlos Santana, Doc Watson. (Ouch! My brain hurts already from trying to populate this list.)

What really appeals to me, more often than not, are guitarists who do more with less. For example, Eddie Van Halen may be a brilliant technical player, and have blazing fast fingers, but Clapton can extract more soul out of a single sustained note than EVH can from a string of 16.

There are probably a bunch of acoustic players in addition to Doc Watson that I find amazing, inspiring, etc., and maybe I'll update this comment when I think of them all.

Good question, PC.

I just posted 2 videos I expect y'all will enjoy.
My question is, what guitarist inspire you?
For me, recently it was Pete Townsend.
I took my two sons to see The Who on 3 November 2008.
Epic show!!!.

Ninety percent of the time I play 12 string guitar (I have four of them)

I have been playing 12 string since Dec 1972...and find nothing can quite touch a twelve for volume and chordal sound. (although initially it is tough on your fingers)

I mostly cross pick.

I have been playing guitar since 1960
(my first guitar was a Gibson ES 125 (1955) that I bought for $70.
My daughter in Seattle now has it.

For chords and lyrics I use the following on line sources:
The guitar guy.com ....old standards
Spike's music.com (Spike is a female)....folk and contemporary
Guitaretab.com something liike 40,000 songs

Anyone care to share with us the tunes that you're sick of playing? I played in Top 40/Classic Rock bands for years and my list is pretty extensive. Of course, I'll always play what I'm asked, but I just cringe when I'm asked to do "Margaritaville". If I had a nickle for every time a boater has asked for that one I'd be able to afford a bigger boat and a better guitar!

The name of the group is the O'day Strung-Out String (SOS) Band. We've been called other things, but since this is a nice family-oriented website, I won't repeat them here.

Playing since 1960....Boating since 1955 (Yes I'm a bit older than the rest of you!)

Picture is of my 1989 Taylor 815 CE.....Special order before the mass production (made in Santee CA)....this model didn't come out as a cutaway until 1993 (then a Venetian not a Florentine)....electrics added in 1998

I presently have 9 guitars....mostly acoustic....enjoy trading on craigslist ...satisfying my G.A.S. (guitar acquisition syndrome)

Live in NY....sail in CT
