About to get a boat in Grand Haven and cross over to Waukegan.
Any ideas on the best route?

Russell,
I have crossed several times from White Lake usually to Port Washington but have also crossed to Manitowac. Wrong direction for you. but very doable in a day. Grand Haven to Waukegan would make a little longer day. If you are reluctant to take the whole bite at once, You can easily port hop to Holland, South Haven, Benton Harbor/ St Joe, New Buffalo, and Hammond, all accommodating harbors. Enjoy Michigan while here.

Course: 244 mag.
Distance: 80 nm

Hit buoy G3 (fl g 3.5 sec) off of Waukegan, steer course 274 mag for .6 nm to channel entrance.

Have you crossed the lake before? Do you have GPS? Do you have paper charts (you should!)? What kind of a boat? Are you familiar with the boat?
Its a used Cat27, haven't seen it yet but the guy says its seaworthy. Yes on the GPS and charts are
nice to have. I haven't sailed for some years now, use to quite a bit. I feel pretty confident on being able
to handle the boat, a good two day weather forecast would be nice too. Could get it delivered but
it seemed like a great way for me to connect with my son for awhile (it would be his first outing ;)
Thanks for the headings, do you think if we have WSW winds it could take 2 days?
