Thinking about getting a pet (dog or cat) for the kids and were wondering if anyone had any advice for liveaboards. Do they need special training? What's the process like when entering different countries?(Caribbean and Med, mostly) How do you keep them from falling overboard?

We have had a cat aboard for 8 years and are in our 5th year of cruising year-round. I love dogs, but a cat is so much easier, the perfect boat pet. If you have a dog, and it needs to go ashore to do it's duty, keep in mind those rainy days with the wind at 20 knots in the anchorage, and you risking serious damage to launch the dink...
