Event Description

Sailors do not have to be skilled racers to enjoy the weekend. Each year we have a considerable number of first-time participants. Considering first-time participation? Click here.

The Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta is open to monohull boats of a design that is 25 years old or older. The minimum length is 18 feet. Singlehanders require approval by the race committee.

Participating boats range from classic pre World War II yachts to Catalinas, J24s, and Flying Scotts.

Shore-side events begin Friday October10 with happy hour and music at Yankee Point Marina.

Saturday the race is on a triangular course. Sunday is a pursuit race in which the boats with the highest ratings (slowest boats) start first.

Skippers choose the level of competition they desire. They may select either the Flying Cloud Division with its friendlier competition or the Lightning Division which requires a current 2008 PHRF rating for Chesapeake Bay.

The winning skipper in the Lightning Division is asked to represent the “Turkey Shoot” in the National Hospice Regatta held in Annapolis for the winners of local Hospice Regattas held around the country.

In the Flying Cloud Division the Sunday pursuit race will include a special competition for wooden boats built to a 1965 or earlier design. These classic wooden boats will be eligible for both the Flying Cloud awards and the wooden boat awards.
