Our new B40 emits bad odors from the holding tank vent on the starbopard side of the hull. No odors in the cabin, but when we sail and the wind blows it's pretty bad, and coming only from the starboard side. The tank is not full--no liquid is coming out, just odors.  On our prior Beneteau we used a product in the holding tank called KO--Kills Odors--and it worked fine; same product on the new boat doesn't help at all.  Any suggestions?

Hi Gary

I have the same friggin problem. I spoke with a guy at a marina who had the same issue. he added a inline filter to the out going vent and it totally eliminated the problem. I never got his name or number to get more info. im sure if you go on line or ask the broker who sold you the boat, you may get some info. ill throw the question to Mike Brown who in sea knows in the Beneteau40-43 boat group. let me know if you find anything else.

You can buy the vent filters at West Marine.  Pricey but last quite a while.

Are you flushing with salt or fresh water? If it's salt then that may be your problem. While a full holding tank will vent nasty odors with either water type, it's especially bad with salt. The salt water has microbes in it that decay producing some horrific odors. Converted both our heads to fresh water and love it. We really don't notice the difference in water consumption either.

Mike

Hi, I know this is an old thread but does anyone have any info on the conversion to fresh water flush for a Oceania 40?
