How many member/owners of post 2008 and up to 2010 Oceanis 40 and 43 models have been contacted by their dealer offering the significant modification to the top of the rudder post assembly.
I was alerted by a posting in the SeaKnots group but have failed to note too much further activity. My dealer in Queensland, Australia has supplied the steel plate assembly and the labour to fit it, all without any trouble on my behalf.

Many fellow Beneteau owners in Sydney are completely unaware of the factory paid for and supplied modification .I am intrigued to know how much interest this, effectively a recall, has created overseas,

Thanks for the heads up. We had an issue with our rudder post this past year on our 2011 Beneteau 40 with the bracket loosening and slipping down the post to the point where we lost steerage at sea. I would be very interested in the modification you are referring to including the steel plate assembly. Please provide any details that you can.

Thanks,

Hello Jeff and others who have joined this forum.

Beneteau have as usual carried out their role very well and the provided modification is a substantial steel plate assembly which fits over the top of the rudder post and is then through bolted to the top of the timber fabrication supporting the rudder assembly. The role it provides is to prevent the top of the rudder post moving forward should the rudder be subjected to a grounding while the yacht is moving forward. Our model seems to also have a substantial timber beam along the tranverse rear bulkhead oif the aft cabin immediately forward of the rudder post, providing a similiar, though less substantial movement preventer.

We had our 2008 43 retrofitted with the repair prior to delivery. At the time they installed extra reinforcement but I do not believe it was a steel plate. No issues with the rudder or steering at all.

Hello
I have a french built B43 from 2007 hull 77.
Beneteau came to modify the rudder post with a reinforcememt steel plate.
I think we had a post on this subject. I had also sent a video of a dutch B43 called "STEADY" that swowed what can happen when this is not done !!!

We learned of this before our Atlantic crossing in '09 and had the work done in time. 12.000 miles later all is good so far...

Hi, So how can you tell if the modification has been done to a B40? Mine is a 2008 so I suspect it has not been modified but I don't know what to look for.  I did a search on this site and on google to no avail.
