This is a discussion that I would like to start on why we should go renewable. From the Cost of the Equipment to the Installation (either do it yourself or have it installed) to the Cost of Diesel and mantainence on your engine. and Enviroment

dont have to buy new stuff-- used works well and is  quite  a lot less pricey.....if  you live on anchor, you  NEED renewable  energy or just use diesel or  gas engine all the time....i prefer solar and wind, meself-is so much more practical and  so much less expensive than using diesel at  nearly 4 dollars per gallon  at half gallon per hour.....

Nothing against renewable energy, but it comes down to cost and reliability.  With the right tax incentives it can make economic sense but you still need a reliable back up source.  So when considering cost, reliability and space, I wonder how practical it is on boats.

i got solar cheeeeep--friends old used--isnt the panels deteriorate--is the connections..ssshhhh---dont tell them lol---and i have a motor for creating a wind genny with high output lol..just need some more parts--the blades and hub and some other small items and ta daaaa i will have a wind genny as well as solar and my honda 2kw lol.... there used to be a place in san diego that sold seconds and irregulars--those are gooood---but the man went into retirement and the place is no longer...dang! now everything is 400 percent mark up....
now one has to find someone who works for a city that changes out th e solar panels every yr for hail damage ..lol....anything for a cheap alternative.no reason to pay retail...or, there is a small ad on the side bar of many pages for make it yourself panels....gooodluck...just remember every panel needs to be attached to a regulator--you can make more than one panel to a regulator if you have a ;large enough regulator.....

I'm trying to find out the best (most practical) option for solar and wind power generatig for my Irwin Citation 30. I'm not very technically minded, so my head is spinning with all the information I've found over the Internet.
