Hi Captain! Neat page you have & a neat life too- very salty. The profile photo was taken in mid-2008 at "Powell", a tiny, unihabited Bahama outisland. The sea carved the limestone out and made all these cool, sort-of scary caves. I was scared that there might be bats, but there wasn't (ha-hah, bats, too much Hollywood influence) cheers!
My website is still there but I have not done anything with it in a few years. I didn't get the activity I had hoped and couldn't get enough advertisers. I had to leave it up for a certain time to satisfy the advertisers I had signed. It ended up a break even thing, and I will most likely archive what is there and kill the web part and point the site to my personal site. But it was fun to play with, I learned A LOT, and I met a bunch of really wonderful people like yourself. Laurie and I are hoping that the economy will improve about the time Alex goes to college in four years, and we will go off on another adventure. We are currently researching the possibility of purhasing a 56 foot catamaran, and outfitting it for diving. It would give us the potential for 4 couples on board, and room for a compressor, tanks and such. As well as large enough diesels to get around when there is no wind, or on the nose wind. We will see!
We've beenup to silver springs there West off lake George. A couple times. As a matter of fact we bought our pontoon boat at astor marina. So we've been up there several times. I'm father upstream (Sanford) and I to have gone from Sunrise to sunset. It's a beautiful thing about this state. I like sailing off Sanibel Island as my favorite spot. Don't really like the inter coastal that well. I do spend a lot of time on Lake Morroe. I've been berthed at all 3 marina's there (Sanford).
Salt Springs is north of Astor (Hwy. 40) on the St. Johns River. You have to go on Lake George to get there. I am not far from water, really. I have lakes less than 30 minutes away. Only they are gator infested. I am not close to the water I want to be on, the oceans!!! But I can get to either coast in about the same time. Go see the sun rise in the Atlantic, then drive a little bit, and see it set in the Gulf.
wow---now you have me all excited i have ot go fix my bicycle and go to the store----you found my soft spot----olde beauties.....older than i am and far more beautiful!!!!! who can compete with the likes of the antique an dancient mariners---ships----some of the men....but all of the ships.......!!!!!
Hi Capt Jack!
I have a smallish sailboat also. Mine is probably smaller than yours. I get on the St. Johns a lot! Just a 40 minute ride to Salt Springs that leads to St. Johns. Hope your new year is great!!!!! Jennifer
Wow! You built a wheel helm for a CP 16/3? Sounds great! I love my CP 19. I had a CP 16 but the wife thought it was a bit too "tippy" (to me - tippy is fun!) but who am I to argue, so we got the 19! Enjoy!
