We r loooking at fitting a bow thruster to our oc 40. The forward water tank means it has to be behind that and about 2m from the bow. We r told that even with  85k rather than 60k it would still not be very effective! And suggestion is to put in a smaller tank so it can be sited forward of it. Any one any experience, our prob is on the med coast of spain 20k crosswinds just when you are parking. Penny

Hi Penny,

Are you in Denia? (I ask bc of the wind)

Saludos.
Penny, the factory installation places the thruster behind the water tank and consumes part of the locker under the bed. If you can have the most powerful unit installed as when the winds are above 15kts it is not very effective. I believe the one in our 43 is 6 hp. You'll like having a thruster when docking. It makes handling in tight places much easier. I use ours in combination with the prop walk for even better maneuvering.
Good luck

Hey Mike

do you know if we have a  Max Power CT60 or CT 80. bow thruster on our boats. My boat is a 2008 40

Mike, I'll try to remember and look tomorrow but if I recall correctly it's a CT60.

Mike

Mike, I checked and it's the CT80.

Mikey

Thanks. on the advice of a surveyor friend we're have a smaller tank installed so the thruster can go in front of it keeping the tube length about 1m , which he says is important, and giving the xtra leverage to cope with .the stronger cross winds.
Good luck with the installation. I'm sure you'll be glad to have the thruster.
Mike
