Hello,
On a cruise from Barcelona to Roses in the west med we did an average of 7,5 knots for 90 nm.(including port docking).
And most of all we surfed a wave at 16,6 knts true wind around 25kts at 120° Genoa 1 turn and one reef in the main. The average speed at that time before take off was 11kts.
We had never had gone at such speed.
Has anyone similar experience ? I didn't know these cruising boats could surf.

I recently came back form a short cruise. On one day we went from Annapolis, MD to Solomon's MD., a distance of 47 km. The wind was out of the Northwest at 15-20 and gusting to 25 knts. We consistently hit speeds of 10.3 knts and averaged 9.1 knts for the entire trip. In the Patuxtent River we did catch one wave and surfed down it at 12.3 kntos. We almost buried the bow in the previous wave. This is on a Ben 40. I too am impressed as to how quick the boat was on the broad reach in these winds. Sail combination was a 1.5 reef in both main and genoa.

Foster that had to be an awesome ride. I've been able to touch but not sustain 10kts on a beam reach but never downhill like you did. Were you flying a spin/genakker?
Mike
No just main reefed and genoa with one turn 120° true wind 25kts with 3m waves from 3/4 aft
Wow, sounds like you had the trim set to perfection. Now I'll be out looking for similiar conditions to see what I can do. haha
