"On my 1984 Oday 30 there are teak spacers between my center deck cleats and the deck. They are about 1.5" to 2" spacers that are rotting fairly badly. I'm thinking I will have to reproduce them myself to replace them.…"
"Well I managed to replace the calking under my top side hand rails. I used butyl tape and that presented me with an unexpected problem. The butyl tape is a little thicker than the old silicone calk that was previously used so after…"
My wife and I started cruising about 10 years ago, so we are rather new but have fallen in love with sailing. Prior to purchasing our 30' Oday, I had been sailing small catamarans for years. I'm still learning a lot about cruising and hope to have many, many, more great cruising experiences.
Green Bay and Lake Michigan

Get to know other sailors and learn from each other. There's a lesson in every story!
I did it!!! There now be some music on my page. So Check It Out. I know it is silly to get excited over something so minor, but I can't effect most of the major things in my world, so every success is something to celebrate.
Taking Cayo Mio for an overnight to Naples, Fl this weekend, and the repaired radar will be reinstalled on Monday. So that puts most major systems back on line. I still will have to be careful on longer passages offshore because I can't put the motor over 1500 rpm due to the slightly bent prop shaft. But she is a sailboat after all, and f the forecast is OK we an go.....
Have a great day and enjoy.

John, thanks for getting back to me on the charter question. My initial posting was written at my desk in Iowa, but since then my wife and I (along w/ 2 other couples) have led 21 students to New Zealand. As a result, I'm writing to you now from a marina office in Auckland, where we're getting ready to do a 2 day charter. This is truly an amazing city for anyone who likes sailing.
Anyhow, my point (other than bragging about being in NZ) is that I'll have pretty irregular internet contact for the next couple of weeks, so if you respond, I'm not sure how long it will be till I can acknowledge.
John, I see that you sail out of Green Bay and based on your photos, it looks great. I've chartered several times in the southern half of the lake, out of Michigan City and enjoyed the experience a lot. Now, I'm looking to explore a bit farther north. Do you know of any charter opportunities out of the Green Bay area? I'd be driving in from Iowa, so the western shore of the lake is much easier to reach for me than the eastern.
If you have any thoughts, I sure be appreciative. Thanks, and hang in there till the warm weather returns.
John, I will find out about the molds from my friend Carl Tripp. He owns a marinia where I keep my boat. The marina is only about 20 miles from the old factory. He sold O'Days for years and he was also a board member for O'Day

Caution, in flushing and cleaning the A/C strainer this weekend, I was reattaching the hose to the nipple coming from the raw water thru hull. In simply re tightening the hose clamp the nipple sheared off. Then in trying to carefully unscrew the remnant threads that screw into the 90 elbow they completley crushed. It looks to…See More
"There is probably a spec sheet on the Cascade 29 bridge clearance, but it would only be an estimate, since it depends on where your specific boat sits on its "designed" waterline and assumes your mast is the standard height. Some boats are…"
