From Bodrum you should sail to Cleopatra's beach and walk around the ancient ruins, with old olive trees growing out of the Greek theatre. Then there are many small coves around there, which your crew will surely know.

Hello Andrea, you are doing well going to Turkey, as it is one of the most fascinating sailing areas of the Mediterranean. I am spending my third year there. It is all beautiful, but the most popular and most well equipped is the area from Bodrum, Marmaris and Gocek. If you look at my yachting website, you will find some photos of marinas and anchorages: http://www.mediterranean-yachting.com/Turkey/Turkey.htm
Happy sailing

The boat is still in charter, at least until this July. So far, it has worked out well for us. We are going down there in June for one last 'sail' before the contract is up and she will be pulled out for 're-comissioning at the end of July. Once that is complete she will be put on the hard at Nanny Cay until the end of hurricane season. Then, I plan to bring her home to Florida.

Thanks, for the info, I hadn't heard of them, I will check it out. I am somewhat active in etsy.com, art being the other passion besides sailing. Funny that I was thinking instead of buying this property I should have bought a boat but this does best facilitate art as an ongoing vocation. It also means I can get away to crew when the opportunities arise. I have done coastal and current navigation classes but not had the opportunity to apply them since I learned to sail. Although have had the terrific opportunity to be out on a little day sailer in Newport RI when the Americas cup was held there ANd having the Aussies come right up by us, way cool...

Your Pictures are super. I am looking forward to seeing those of Turkey, I hear it is a super country but when I and my eldest Daughter did a 6 week trip together in '93 I think, Italy was tough enough for 2 women with back packs:P But our time on skyros Greece(I can actually give you a contact and they sometimes rent out the extra house in the back awesome folks! and Budapest, and Prague were the best:D
back to business;)
Happy Sailing!

Sooo...to me it isn't how long, but how much you enjoy..bout the same for me actually..just a love for it and the water..have always enjoyed walking the piers, listening to the wind ..watching the boats...then I started with a girl scout troop earning the badge...been worse for me ever since... been in races and actually voted sailor athlete of the yr and voted in as commodore..and I can tell you in all honesty...more for enthusiansm than experience . Hope you never lose the love.

Andrea, you mentioned wine glas, that do not break. Do you also not a company, that delivers unbreakable champagne glasses?

Best,
Christoph

Andrea,
actually I am mainly a sculptor not painter. But the main draw back is not having access to a boat:( I have been land bound for all too long, and desperately miss being on the water. If I could find a crew position I would jump on it in a heartbeat!. I have a fantasy of maybe being able to set up a variety of connections in various destinations to be able to do some glass work when I am in port someday. Since being an artist is the only thing in my life that has a pull stronger than Sailing I know whenever I do get back on the water I will be able to find something I can do on board. And since I love to travel and am fine with 'roughing it' there are always artisans in places that i can learn from. Since I have a fibers degrees, and weave, and make paper as well as cast glass and make beads. About the only thing I don't do is much 2d, but time at sea is great to practice sketching too:D

hi Andrea.... I love the sailing here... check out the Sag Harbor Sailing School. They have great daysailers and Catalina 33 for cruising.
My favorite sailboat is the Maine Cat 30. Sailed her in Annapolis with the designer. I have an O'day Daysailer.
I also manage a Ships Store on 3 Mile Harbor, so much of my day is outside.

Thanks for stopping by. And if your sailing adventures take you to Newport Marina, give us a shout. See you on the water, or on SeaKnots.

HI Andrea,

I was enjoying some of the photos you've posted on the site (East River flotilla, sunrise on the Hudson, etc.), and they reminded me very much of trips (and photos) I've taken myself. Just curious: what brand/model of boat is Daisy Mae (I'm assuming she's yours), and where did you take the Hudson sunrise photo from? If you're ever in Jersey City (Newport Marina, to be precise) stop by and say "hey".

Cant say I have sailed in Turkey but I have visited some of the less traveled Greek Isles and for a pleasant and as authentic representation of 'old' Greece I can say my daughter and I had a fabulous time on Skyros.

I can really appreciate the addiction aspect of sailing, I had much the same experience, and sailed as much as I could, haven't had access in a few years and am really feeling the pull, hopefully some opportunity will come soon:D. Happy sailing!
