Most modern laptops come with a built-in wi-fi card so getting on the internet is simply a matter of turning on the computer and launching you internet browser. Many marinas offer free wi-fi and many marinas have pay for use wi-fi provided by numerous vendors. it is possible to extend your computer's range of reception by using an external wi-fi card and antenna (available for about $50).
These links will lead you to what we use. We routinely pick up wifi from the boat at a mile away. Mount the antenna and run the lead to the Engenius. The Engenius then plugs into the USB port on your computer, run the software and viola, you have internet......if there's a signal available. Works really well. We're quite pleased with it. http://www.rvshop.com/search.asp?keyword=solenoid&search=GO
