Party's Over

Now that my round the world plan is in a holding pattern, it is time to continue writing a book started many moons ago. With holding the title is essential. Of all the things I could be paranoid about, the concept of the book is too precious to risk it be taken by someone with more book writing savvy than I. Like the guy who wrote Cold Mountain the plan is to write a best seller. It may be my first book. That, indeed, may be the best reason to make it a good one.

What you can know is… Continue

Coincidence or Psychic

A few days ago I posted a blog about my new lifestyle as an unwed mate. Having no legal ties, I can't rightfully call myself a housewife. The role I have chosen brings me happiness as I relish the time enjoying the day's parade of wonders with someone who I am intimate with. The coincidence is that just a few minutes earlier I was logging on to a new website whereby they ask folks to describe their favorite anchorages. The concept intrigued me, though navigating the password situation has…

Enough is Enough

According to Dr. Vincent Ryan, a secret to life is knowing when Enough is Enough. Put to song, Barbara Streisand sings a bittersweet rendition of 'Have I Stayed to Long at the Fair?' And, so it is as I begin provisioning Spray for the next leg of her Sailing at Sixty adventure. Not as giddy and naive as when I left Palm Bay, Florida nearly one year ago, the fear of being alone has grown. I believe it was Tania Abei who reflected on her round the world adventure. The hardest part she said was… Continue

Holy Moly

Recovering from the shock of reality I am marinating in grief over my husband's death. About this time last year, I became enchanted with the prospect of having a mate. He is tall, with a thick head of hair. His smile is infectious and he told me what I wanted to hear. Oh, "how he wanted to learn to dance" he exclaimed as he put his arms around my waist as we sashayed across my kitchen floor. He has no children and was only married once some 20 years ago. His custom built sailboat is the type I… Continue

Crushing romance....

December 11, 2010.

So when was the last time you saw someone perform an incredibly romantic act and you inadvertently crushed the moment? Let me start from the beginning….

There’s at least 40 cruising boats in the immediate area waiting for this forecast cold front to pass through. The weather is once again warm so why not have a little fun while we’re waiting.

Monument Island is a couple of hundred yards away so a cocktail hour was planned for this afternoon for…

Reality sucks

Yea, it is too bad I don't have any cheese in the house. Well, I do have some hard parmesan but who eats plain parmesan?. Guess I could heat up some spinach and sprinkle some fresh grated parm to enjoy a healthy treat. Unfortunately, I don't have an appetite. Seems like I have some kind of no energy bug that kept me on the couch all day. I couldn't even garner the strength to get dressed for work. Perhaps it is time that my 100% attendance at work ethic meanders down the path of I don't…

Home Sweet Home

And so my journey ends with the voice of John Denver echoing in my mind his refrain, "Gee it's good to be back home." Never before have I felt so connected to my sister and brothers, my sailing friends and neighbors and my colleagues at work. By August 7th a colleague and I just challenged ourselves to present to each other our next 5 year plan. It's exciting to end one chapter in the book of life yet be passionately motivated to begin the next one. It was in a doctoral class that I learned the… Continue
