Here I am drifting along at 3.5 knots, wing on wing, with a dissipating patch of darkened clouds off to starboard while blogging. The clouds are dispelling some moisture but are not bringing any wind. I am just so excited to have internet a few miles from the shore line. It looks like internet will be my biggest daily expense. Believe it or not some days are so crazy I wonder how a day of quiet contemplation ever exists.
Yesterday, as an example, I cleaned about an hour's worth of bottom brushing. Then, retiring to the cockpit for some breakfast promised myself to resume cleaning in the afternoon. A basic yoga class ensued at the beach. Fun volleyball followed. Although the definition of fun raised my gander a bit. A guy on the southern court was bantering for players. About five folks began to warm up.…

After growing up in the Western Med and taking the time to cruise the area extensively, I realized I always end up recommending the same favorite waypoints to fellow cruisers. Most of them are not even on guides but were recommended to us by others. Others we simply stumbled upon. Now I am sharing my list with you below (click on the coordinates for a map view). If you are in the… Continue

We believe that sailors are the best source of sailing information.
That is why my friend Max and I created
bluemapia, an open content sailing and cruising guide, where people from all over the world can write about the places they have visited by boat: bays they love, safe anchorages they know, best marina services they have found or charming villages where to stop for a night.…

Someone else just posted a message asking for tips about winterizing. Here in Sunny Florida we winterize by changing our weekly night racing to Sunday afternoons, leave work early on Friday to sail down the river where we drop anchor and sleep late on Saturday morning. Around noon or 1 pm, we clean the bottom of the boat as our excuse to go for a refreshing swim with the dolphins in the continually shifting waters at Sebastian Inlet. Then, around 4 pm we pull up the anchor and drift over to a…

Limstone rocks, the most beautiful beaches and hundreds of islands that give you shelter in both seasons. The best winds are in June/July and August, but with performance catamarans (light and real sailing) it is good all year round.
There are several possibilities from budget adventurous camping cats to all inclusive luxurious yachts with skipper, cook and massage…

I was in. A whole new world had opened up and welcomed me in. I was sailing. Sailing, sailing, sailing. Up until that point I was just enjoying the pure wind upon my face, I was sailing. I quickly found out that it wasn't just about sailing though. There were a few different aspects to sailing. In the Manhattan Yacht Club I found that there were 2 basic types of boaters. Racers or Cruisers.
I wasn't sure what I was yet. I just started. I just knew I had to be out on the water and at…
