Any suggestions for a ~4kVa generator ?

For my 2008 B 43. Where to install, which brand etc without altering the layout. The starboard aft has a nice place but not sure if it will fit the opening. Many thanks.

"Hi Tevfik, If you have AGM or lead acid batteries, I don't think overcharging for a brief period as one or two minutes will damage them. Bulk voltage level for AGM batteries are 14,40 - 14,45 V. But you must be carefull for gells…"

"I am really not knowledgeable enough to answer whether the agms can take that much of an overcharge. I do know those batteries are very expensive and I doubt you wish to damage them.. More importantly why is the solar panel regulator over charging…"

"Many thanks. I have two battery monitors actually both show the same ( one is more detailed) and yes stock charger does exactly that. I was curious to know if solar panel's charging voltage of 14.7-14.8 v for a brief period would be considered…"

"Check voltage at battery with a portable volt meter if you do not have a battery monitor. The stock 40 amp battery charger normally charges agm's  14.1 - 14.3 volts max during bulk charging and around 13.1 (not sure about this one) during…"

Battery overcharge with solar panels?

I installed 2x 68 W solar panels earlier in the summer and it keeps the house batteries always topped up and help me avoid running the engine at anchor when I have two fridges running for a few days. If I use the solar panels and run the engine at the same time, or when the batteries are fully charged (using the shore power), the batteries are charged with 14.7-14.8 volts by the solar panels especially when there is no load (fridges off cycle) although the regulator cuts down the charging amp…See More

"I wouldn't waste any time trying to correct it. It's been 4 years since we bought our B43 and the fuel gauge never gave a correct reading (even after the gauge was replaced by Beneteau). Usually it gets stuck at 3/4 before a sharp descent…"

"Looks like an error read. There is no decimal in the speed. Looks odd. The boat is not designed for a sustained 16knot anyway. It seems like a momentary error in measurement."

I spent a considerable amount of time looking for a replacement generator for my Vagabond-47 this past year. I looked at the "nextgen" that you refer to and several others. I settled on and purchased the Westerbeke 4kw generator, being a 3 cylinder it runs at a slower speed and I am expecting improved reliability. several folks in our harbor have the nextgen  and have had problems.
