There's a blast from the past.
The last time I saw Cayenne it was owned by St. Mary's College. They sold the boat to someone.... I assume the boat is racing and crusing. I'll ask some alums.
I had some good times on that boat back in the day. I ran that boat for a year when I was 22. Not a bad gig. Heaps of fun.

Is the old Cayenne still haunting the waters of Annapolis?

Very busy these days.
Lots of racing in Annapolis.
Mainly we're racing a NM49 named Mameluke. We've got a Farr 30 and Farr 40 also racing and we've got 20 Colgate 26's for our JV squad to practice & race during every weekday until the middle of November. Also 10 Navy 44's for the Intrepid Cup, McMillan Cup, Lloyd Phoenix & Kennedy Cup Regattas.
Zaraffa is being laid up for the season, stored inside to prep for the Newport Bermuda Race next summer.

Walter Cronkite's boat was for sale on Ebay...don't know if someone bought it yet.

Have fun Pete...and be safe

I'm racing on Donnybrook with my son this weekend, against my work partners on Zaraffa. That should go over well at the office...

After Halifax (gained more upwind boatspeed by eating lots of seafood) we sailed to Nantucket, then over to Edgartown for the Round the Island Race. We moored to Walter Cronkite's mooring, and he passed away the night before the race. We honored him at the prizegiving. We surpassed the course record for the Round the Island Race, but was bested by Rambler. As a consolation prize we corrected ahead of Rambler. Then off to Sea Cliff for the Around Long Island Regatta. It blew-stink. Up to 45 knots, 30 for the start. Our boat loved the conditions. Only broke 2 stantions and one padey for the storm trysail sheet. We just held the boat back until the breeze layed down, then once the wind got below 25 knots went for the full main and a series of headsails from the #4 to the LT 1. There were lots of cruisers in the race, and certainly not conditions for those boats so all but 9 dropped out of the race.
Zaraffa cleaned up by correcting about 10 hrs ahead of the next boat.
We'll be back...

Hi Peter. Don't you want more weight, in the right place, for heavy air. :) I'm shooting the Bucket Regatta on Sunday in Newport. BIG boats!! Then it's Marblehead race week next week. Good luck!

I read that if a wave approaches the size of your beam, then you may be toppled. But I think that frequency and shape of the wave matter too. In canoe hulls they talk about primary and secondary stability. My Bayfield is 29' with 10'2" beam; most ...
