<div> </div>
<div>The 2012 Northeast O'day Owners rOnDAYvous -- our 10th annual gathering -- will be held the weekend of July 13-15 at Cedar Island Marina in Clinton, CT. Marina owners are looking forward to helping us make this the biggest and best ever, but it all starts with YOU.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>So mark your calendars -- in pen -- and start thinking nice warm thoughts. Cedar Island is a family-oriented facility with great amenities, including a big transient dock that will allow all attendees to hang out in a centralized spot. Then there's the pool, BBQ area, lounge, shuttle to town and shopping outlets, and much more.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>As if you needed more incentive, we've also worked out a terrific dockage rate for the rOnDAYvous (based on at least 15 boats). Don't miss out. Contact the marina directly to reserve your spot, and do it soon. After March 1, they'll open up their transient space to all comers, so you'll be taking your chances after that date. Here's a link to the marina website, which includes e-mail and phone contact info:</div>
<div> </div>
<div><a href="http://www.cedarislandmarina.com">http://www.cedarislandmarina.com</a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>But wait, there's more....</div>
<div> </div>
<div>(There's more? Tell me, please!!!)</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Since it's the 10th annual rOnDAYvous, we want to go really big. So, after the weekend at Cedar Island, the party will continue for those with the time and desire to do so. A flotilla of O'days will shove off for the Vineyard (or Block, or the Elizabeth Islands -- exact destination to be determined), where the party will carry on for as long as attendees can manage. Think of it -- a big O'day raftup that will let you party at leisure. In the words of Gershwin, "Who could ask for anything more?"</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Lots to look forward to as we slog through the depths of winter. Boy, I feel warmer already. So get busy. Sign up, and bring a fellow O'day owner while you're at it. (And besides contacting the marina, don't forget to let me know if you're attending.)</div>
<div> </div>
<div>See you in July.</div>

Hello, I stumbled across this forum while researching an O'day 28. I am looking at a boat which has been on the hard since 2006. It is currently on a cradle, and the starboard hull has been pushed in by the cradle. The yard man says this is no big thing, that it will pop right out when it is off the cradle. Any thoughts?<br />

I started looking for a 25, and am up to a 28 because of the number of boats offered for sale. I am looking at a 30 for about the same price as the 28. The 28 seems big, as I…

I started looking for a 25, and am up to a 28 because of the number of boats offered for sale. I am looking at a 30 for about the same price as the 28. The 28 seems big, as I currently sail a 22. The 30 seems HUGE! Is there much difference between a 28 and a 30? I know it 's about 24 inches, but sailing qualities, maintenance etc. can there be that much difference?<br />
I've been sailing the Navesink and a couple of excursions to Raritan Bay, All day sails. I'd like to do some coastal cruising in the area. None of the numbers seem dramatic. 6" of draft, 4' in mast height etc. Thanks,<br />

This year's big event will be held the weekend of July 10-12 at Lawrence Creek in Brightwaters, Long Island. That's on the South Shore, just off Great South Bay (across from Fire Island). A good friend of one of our fellow O'dayers has graciously provided the use of his waterfront property, with a few hundred feet of private bulkhead on this deep-water inlet. (OK, it's deep for Great South Bay, but plenty deep enough.)<br />
<br />
The photo shows the site, looking north. There's plenty of room for games and activities, barbecuing, and the traditional outdoor SOS Band performance, and the Bay itself offers plenty of opportunity for racing, fishing, even a cruise across to Fire Island, if you're so inclined. (Of course, with the property including a private beach, you needn't sail over to FI if you just want to sunbathe.)<br />
<br />
The year's first issue of the online newsletter "The rOnDAYvous Report" will be sent out in the next couple weeks, and it will include a lot more details, as will succeeding issues right on up to the big event.<br />
<br />
If you've always wanted to explore Long Island's "other" shore, this is the perfect opportunity. Don't hesitate, don't be shy -- sign up ASAP for the 2009 rOnDAYvous. It sure beats kicking yourself in the fanny for having missed it.<br />

This photo I saw is just beautiful. I have an Oday 27 with a new 20hp Betamarine motor. I replaced several wood parts and the baby looks shiny. We run it upwind in Costa Rica and it is a cozy solid small boat. By the way, the names is MY BOAT

<br />
Here's what we ought to consider in making the site selection. Ideally, it should have shoreside sanitary facilities (toilets and showers), a place where a barbecue or picnic can be held, and perhaps space for other shoreside activities (either on-site or close by). The facility should be able to hold at least 20-25 boats, from Friday through Sunday. Either docks or moorings are OK, although I concede the fact that some people have very definite preferences when it comes to this aspect of it. The site should be somewhere in the Greater New York tri-state area.<br />
<br />
Thus far, the rOnDAYvous has been held in the following locations: Harlem YC (City Island), Liberty Landing Marina (Jersey City), Captain's Cove Seaport (Black Rock Harbor, CT), Raritan YC (Perth Amboy, NJ), Milford Landing Marina (Milford, CT), and Chelsea YC (Chelsea, NY). There's nothing whatsoever that precludes a return visit to any of these locations, but there are so many places to choose from that we haven't gone to yet.<br />
<br />
Anyway, send along your recommendations, along with any compelling reasons why you think a particular place would be good for the 2009 rOnDAYvous. Post your replies as soon as possible, so we can reserve the site early. Thanks a bunch, and a Happy New Year to all!<br />
