Hey, the video was great! Portofino is a very safe and convient marina, we kept our boat there for a couple of years when they first opened and quickly found that you couldn't sell boat slips for $70K and turned to mostly rental. After that we moved down to Freeport for easy access to the Gulf, then all the way down to Port Isabella, and now in Bahia Marina in Ingleside, just off Corpus Christi Bay. Sounds like a lot of moving around, but that's over 30-years time.
Somewhere I've got photos of Claudette and Alicia when they hit. If I can find them, I'll post them in the photo section.

Didnt mean to "beat a dead horse" puttin that video up, found it when I was checkin out Waterford. This is my first year to really feel how vulnerable yacht owners are. I used to just back under the trailer and go visit someone off the forcasted track line to save my lil boat. I feel picking floating docks was one of the biggest decision I could make, as far as predicting goes though not always an answer, the storm is gonna do what it will. Docks in Baytown floated up and over the columns.
No, wait. Insurance IS the biggest decision I could ve made.

Looks like Watergate didn't fair well in Ike. When Ike hit, we were down in Port Isabel, just off the bottom of South Padre Island - no problems there at all. On the other hand, back in '79 we were at Odo's (now Blue Dolphin YC) in Kemah and when Claudette's 12 foot storm tide came in, the boat rode up as far as she could, then filled up and sunk in the slip.

Your sayin Watergate is "too open to the public" right here and now when I hear they offer a pumpout station. Do ye have to be a member there to pump out or is open to the public?
Im in Portofino, nothing to compare to the scale of Watergate and Waterford, and can say it fared well (floating docks) during Ike. They have been on top of the repairs and heard this weekend the insurance has settled and approved. They ramps are being replaced and cant roll the porta pottie-pumper(unofficial name) to my boat and currently ordering pump outs from Marine Sanitation is why Im askin about FREE pump out stations.

Good plan, Watergate is a neat marina, but too open to the public - big chance of loosing stuff off of your boat. The shipyard there, Southern Yachts is one of the best in the area - John, the manager is a great guy. Paloma is berthed down in Ingleside, just off Corpus Christi Bay, but at haul out/bottom job, etc time, I try to get up there to have it done.

I am at Watergate but need to move, I don't trust my fixed pier ( OLD, damaged from IKE and Black Saturday storm). The marina management is great but they can't seem to keep up with the aging docks. I am looking at Waterford. I lived there way back about 10 years ago and it was ok. Waterfords slips are pretty nice and strong and the floating piers would be better for me singlehanding. I heard they didn't loose any boats in IKE that alone is worth the increase in rent,

PS I met Herrshoff's grandson at a West Marine in Seekonk Mass, As I was gushing on about how much I admired the Herrshoff designs He corrected me on the pronouncement of his name ( its "hair-shoff"). Oh well, my brush with greatness.

She's a second-generation, 1979 Bristol designed by Halsey C. Herreshoff and named Paloma and has been for many years. I bought her near-new from the first owner. For the first few years of her life she was Sea Dancer.
Where are you berthed?

Is your 29.9 named or ever been named Gypsy Lady? I had a friend that restored a 29.9 (14 years ago) and was wondering if that was her. Great boat, built very stout, good sailing characteristics. Alberg design?
