I just saw this article about a boat in FL, Tai Chi. I wonder why they refused the coast-guard's help?

AHOY SAILMATES,

The regulars have spoken! Looks like the consensus for the revised venue for the Fall Flotilla Sail 08, Lake Mead NV/AZ is:

Friday, October 24- Friday October 31.

Unless the better depth can be had a Echo Bay ramp, we will still launch at Callville Bay ramp. Beach the boats over night in one of the coves SW of the marina tire jetty as before. Take note, the water is down some 12 feet since last Mead Madness Sail, so enter coves and beach with caution. Plan to get underway for other basins Sunday AM October 26. Use VHF Channel 68 on the hour to raise the group and determine our location.

I will be returning from my cruise with the folks on October 24, so I will be joining you probably PM on Saturday October 25. I plan on sailing early in October with the "Sailmeister" and leave my boat with mast up on the trailer in the lower parking lot of Callville Bay marina. And Remember;

"The Goal is the Voyage, NOT the Destination!"

Somalia: Pirates demand $1M ransom for 4 Europeans
1 day ago

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — A government minister says Somali gunmen have demanded $1 million for the release of a German couple, their young son and a French boat captain.

The Europeans were seized Monday from a yacht off the Gulf of Aden and taken to Puntland, a semiautonomous region of northern Somalia.

Jama Hirsi Farah, minister of state for security in the region, said Thursday that the kidnappers have demanded $1 million.

The condition of the captives is not clear. A clan elder who is helping negotiate says the boy is suffering from a fever and needs medical help.

Kidnappings and piracy are on the rise in Somalia, where hijackers demand — and often receive — huge ransoms. The 1,880-mile-long coast is overrun with pirates.

Mr.Edelstein made landfall June 4, 2008. Landed at the Watergate Marina in Clear Lake, Texas after seven years cruising around the world. I made certain I was there to greet the Salty Dog.

His reads wear me out! Read his journal:

We've been steadily following this event since it happened. Our thoughts & prayers have already gone out to the Stone family ...and I believe it makes us all feel a little more humbled about our own rigs ....while very very rare, it is conceivable that the keel dropped off for whatever reason ...still, im pretty sure this story is long from over & I bet you a dollar to donuts that there will be one heck of an investigation on that boat.
