Many many more options. If you have one knife, a can opener, and a corkscrew the options are already incredible.

As I understand the banana thing goes back to sailors in the Caribbean who inadvertently brought poisonous spiders aboard inside hands of bananas.

Bill - Would really like to hear about fishing. I dragged a lure all the way across the WHOLE FREAKING ATLANTIC OCEAN and didn't catch a single fish. I'd love to hear from more successful fishers, particularly fishing under sail.

Lol! Mine as well. It's always great to pick up on the simple ones. I just discovered Trader Joe's through my friends Chuck and Sandra. I found 2 items that were great finds...
1-Lentils that are preseasoned in a vacuum sealed bag (and in a box) in the section by the cold salads. These are great for a refreshing lentil salad. Just add tomatoes, onion, pepper and either tuna or chicken.
2-Chocolate covererd cherries by Royal Appointment. These are great with red wine and yes, they are better than Harry and David's.

I'm proficient with grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or salami and cheese quesadilas (yes, it's culturally confused). Clearly, this discussion could expand my diet and skills.

I am happy to join your group of chefs aboard.
I sailed many miles around the planet. Cooked for two, organized cockpit partys, set up picnic on motu in the southern seas, prepared food for long passages etc...I'll be very happy to share recipes and organisation tips with brother/sister-sailors.
