Hey all !

I'm boathunting and going for a second visit to a Catalac 8M soon !
Probably going to make an offer (subject to survey)

Just ran into this site and noticed this group ;-)

Any good and bad things you can tell me about this boat ?

I intend to go cruising, hope this is a good choice (for a start it fits my budget ;-)

Kind regs,
Djeeke

Welcome Aboard.

I am an 8M owner and have nothing but good things to say about Catalacs. Here are a couple of resources for you:
http://www.catamaransite.com and http://www.bobcatandcatalac.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
I also recommend Charles Kanter's book, 'Cruising Catamaran Communique.'

PM me the advertisement for the one you are looking at and I will let you know if I see anything you should watch out for.

Best of Luck,

Brian
Hi Brian, when are you and Tina coming down again. I'm having a great time w Kay...Gosh I got to get fit...the bike about killed me. lol
Thank You Brian !

The overall feedback I got indeed is that all owners seem extremely happy with their choice !

I've sent you a friend request containing a link to some pictures I took on my first visit...

How I see it...
Lot of cosmetic... (plain dirty, headliner partially replaced in salon and detaching everywhere, ...)
Complete rewire of electricity ..
Renew steering system (cables, quadrant, crossbar (is bent), rudders ...
Engine should be fine, recent 15hp 4-stroke (the old 2-stroke is dumped in a locker, supposedly still operational)
Replace the running and standing rigging (evaluating Dunex Dux for this)
Replace 2 broken windows and redo the whole window sealing.
And the lots of smaller items that we will encounter while working on the boat ;-)))

Thanks if you can think of something in particular I need to look at ;-)

There we go !

Made an offer which was accepted !

If survey does not find any excessive costs (osmotic or corroded mast etc...) I'll be an 8M owner in a few weeks...

:-)))

A big Congratulations to you!!!

I did get a chance to look at the pictures. She needs some TLC. You are going to be quite busy getting her all set up. Sounds like you have evaluated her thoroughly. We are doing some similar projects on ours. We will have to keep in touch and compare notes.

Here is another one to take a look at just in case: http://www.multihulls4us.com/forums/showthread.php?p=20606
It may be a bit far for you but seems to be a good deal. I would jump on it if I did not have mine already.

Cheers,

Brian
Yup, it's a bit distant, although interesting !

When importing in the EU I will also be liable to pay VAT on the boat raising the price by 16-21% (depending where I would pay VAT). There is no VAT to be paid if I purchase in the EU.
I also saw an add listing one for sale in Turkey, slightly higher asking price but again also VAT to be paid...

The one I'm looking at is in a similar purchase budget range, the cost of a few flights up and down to see the one you mention will pay for some repairs of the one here... But thanks for the link !

I will be getting a closer look at the boat and start taking notes in the coming days, I will be more than happy to compare notes and ideas !

Cheers,
Djeeke.

B43 Traveller

The starboard side of my Traveller is starting to lift up. I am guessing to remove the center 5mm Allen bolt that goes through the middle of the sheeves, although I cannot get it to budge, to access it. Does anyone have any experience with this??Thanks Dave B43 Shore's AdriftSee More
