The starboard side of my Traveller is starting to lift up. I am guessing to remove the center 5mm Allen bolt that goes through the middle of the sheeves, although I cannot get it to budge, to access it. Does anyone have any experience with this??

The windlass was preforming weak and slow with a noise which made me think the motor brushes or a bearing was going out, thus the reason for removing it.

What I found upon removal was a tremendous amount of salt and sand on the top part of the gearbox, literally packed in. Upon cleaning everything up, luckily all bearings and motor seem fine. When looking for where this water/sand was getting into the gearbox, I noticed it was coming through the hole where the chain counter sensor is located which will be an easy fix (especially since I bought a new chain counter before I started the project.

Couple quick questions.

1) Has anyone else had a similar problem? Seems the chain counter sensor was compromised on my windlass and should have been caught earlier by me.

2) It seems the quick windlass is designed to be installed level, but Beneteau 43s are installed tilting back towards the transom. This means the groove in the base plate of the windlass (which gypsy sits on top) where water/sand is meant to drain into the anchor locker through the chain hole is an uphill path. Would it help if I cut a small groove in the base plate at the low point to allow water/sand to drain versus puddle there? Or, just fixed the problem identified in #1 above and let it go as is?

Hello all.

The Dolphin 40amp battery charger in my 2011 43 is charging well, EXCEPT the cooling fan is cycling on and off every 20 seconds or so. Volts and amps are correct although there is red light top and centre flashing red, does not look happy.

It seems as if the thermostat controlling the fan is not functioning correctly as the unit is not even warm.

I cannot locate the Beneteau supplied manual, any clues as to the fault.

Hello everybody,

I'm an owner of a Oceanis 43 since 2018. I'm really happy with the boat - except with the following situation:

Tracking on the port side is, let's say: poor. Even in ideal wind conditions (12-16 kn wind) the speed is only 5 to 5.5 knots. If there are some waves, you have the feeling, that the boat has not enough power to push through.

On the starboard side, everything is fine: The speed is 1 to 1.5 knots higher, even at higher tracking angles.

I have this phenomenon since sailing the boat in literally every wind and wave condition. This year I got new sails, which didn't make a difference. I checked it the rigg is proper trimmed - there is nothing to complain.

Is this a common characteristic of the Oceanis 43? Maybe due to fact that the motor, skeg and propeller are not in the centerline, but shifted towards the port side?

I'm happy to hear about your experience.

My AGM batteries are getting a bit tired and I am swapping them out for 400ah of lithium, 2 - 200ah 'drop in' replacements.

My system has the 3000 watt inverter and Truecharge 40+ shore power charger which the boat came with and I have verified with the battery manufacturer that these will work with the lithium (they said to set the shore power charger to GEL - WARM to get the right charging characteristics). I have also installed solar a few years back so will need to adjust the charging parameters of the Victron MPPT controller and I am installing a new victron DC to DC charger to protect the alternator.

The question I have is on the battery switches. My thought was that all charging sources would be on the "House" side of the switches so you can turn off battery power to the charge sources if needed. Since I see that mine is wired to have charging sources go to the battery side of the positive and negative switches, I have verified that both my new Victron DC charger and Victron MPPT charger controller have internal fuses, so I am a bit more comfortable installing the charging sources on the battery side of the switches.

However, when I had the negative battery switch in the off position, I tested it with the amp meter and noticed that both sides of the switch where grounded to the battery. It seems some dealer installed ground wires go directly to the battery side of the negative switch which may be inadvertently grounding the entire system.

So 2 questions to the group:

1) is your charger installed on the "battery" side of the switches?

2) Has any one else experienced the Ground Switch issue described above? Any reason to have anything besides the charging & battery ground wires on the battery side of the switch?
Beneteau 40 2009 drive shafttag:seaknots.ning.com,2021-02-01:900123:Topic:3187532021-02-01T00:32:12.427Zfosterhttp://seaknots.ning.com/profile/foster31
