I operate an OSV (AKA oil patch supply boat) out of Cameron, La.  and Ive been operating as far east as 91W and south as far as 27.30N; I haven't seen any oil except bilge slops from a shrimper and all is pretty normal. I spent the past two weeks supporting MMS inspections of platforms and one section of pipeline and other skippers in this area say they're doing much the same.

Ma'am, I didn't post this so I could fight with you, please be angry with someone else. I also don't feel any compelling need to justify mysel or "splain" anything to you.

I'm simply trying to lrt my fellow mariners know the conditions I've experienced in my area of operations, all of which are west of 91W. No slick, no tarballs, no dead critters. The only death I've seen is the slow economic death of the company which owns the vessel i operate; they're not alone in their distress.
i was not fighting--i was showing some of the actualities. today i was advised the oil is on the beach in gulfport. not the barrier islands but gulfport. crossed mississippi sound and has reached the mainland . curently the winds are from the south east and is worst possible scenario for lake ponchartrain and vicinity. i am very glad there are places not yet oiled .. i pray there be some places spared, but there is a lot of oil out there, and it isnt just going away. have a very good day. is a damn shame this had to happen to this degree. very very sad.
i hope you are on top of the fact there is not one state on the gulf coast not now affected by oil. have a good day and i hope your sailing is on smooth waters until this mayhem of absurd proportions is completed ....
we went over to the MS coast to see first hand what's happening with the oil spill. that was 3 wks ago. here's what we wrote on our blog: http://sailgulfcoast.blogspot.com/2010/07/gulf-sailing-post-bp-oil-...
but now the situation is getting worse by the minute. it's not that interesting to leave lake pontchartrain for now. hoping the oil will dissipate...
Michael,
I don't think most are familiar with, or bothered to look up exactly where 91W is. All the reports I have heard are that no oil is that far west. But there is certainly plenty of oil farther east.
